Default Lookin' to buy SC: Need advice..

Hey guys (and girls), I'm very seriously looking to buy an SC and need some advice:
#1. Should I buy an sc400 or sc300-5spd? My biggest issue is the gas consumption between the two. Is there that big of a difference?

#2. Also, the sc400 obviously has more power, but is the manual sc300 more fun to drive (taking into consideration the less power)?

#3. The power differences between the two are on paper. Is the sc400 really that much more powerful/faster then an sc300 in the first place? Unfortunatly I dont have the luxury of test driving any car I buy and seeing for myself, as I'm going to be buying a written-off SC from an insurance auction.

Do you plan to drive it into the ground, or turn it into the fastest thing in your town?

Drive it forever...SC400

Drive it faster than light...SC300

Read past forum postings for the reasons why.

If your a stick lover, go with the Sc300 hoping to find a stick.. If you want power & speed without having to do many mods, Sc400 is for you.

if doing an engine swap is on your mind get a sc300 .people said its easier altough i dont see how easy it can get. convertihg my sc400 to a 1 j was easy, and i did not have to worry about getting a lip ,bigger brakes ,trunk spoiler etc so they are both good cars to consider .the sc300 is slower and lacks torque compare to the sc400 whichever one you get make sure the control arm bushings are good (all of them) and the ac is working because it sukks not having ac in a lexus (i kno because mines is not done yet still fixing 1j issues . good luck with your choice man.

Okay, so from what I hear so far, if I want power go with the sc400. But if I love stick, go with the sc300. Is there anyway to combine the two? Has anyone put a manual transmission in an sc400? Anyone have links?

Look. You really want some serious power? Not just the stock power out of the V8 in the SC4. Get a SC300 5spd, you can find them for cheap now, bolt on a turbo kit, and at even low boost you will be beating a stock SC400.

One thing to consider.
1992-1995 SC400's 250hp, 260tq
1996-1997 SC400's 260hp, 270tq
1998-2000 SC400's 290hp, 300tq

And yes you can swap in a manual to a SC400 but IMO it is not worth the time or money. For the money you spend on that you can have a turbocharged SC300 with a 5spd.

go with a SC300 5-speed (most speed potential and great gas mileage)

Honestly if you go NA-T with the SC300 and get it tuned right you can actually get the same or even better gas mileage. My friend with an SC300 dynoed at 616rwhp and was getting mid 20's on highway. Once he gets his car back it will be around 800rwhp.
