so after picking up the car, I have allot of friends wondering why I got a 11 year old car with 106k. I was happy at first however now I'm thinking if I did the right thing. Should I be worried with the miles on the car?

It's a 95 pearl white/tan leather, sunroof, Nakamichi, heated seats etc.
exterior is 8/10 interior 9/10. decent tires, new battery and brakes

how much should have I payed for this?

You should be fine. There are a lot of people with many more miles and the car is fine.

Considering that I have only 930 miles to go until 200,000...........I don't think you have much to worry about.

The 1UZ is nearly bulletproof. As long as it is maintained well, they tend to last..........well.....we don't really know yet because they're still going!!!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. You have to understand most of these guys have cars that are no more than 3 years old with less than 50k on them. Unfortunantly I do not have that kind of cash flow.

What is the key to get 200k out of a 1UZ motor other than oil changes and not going WOT every time I drive. I dont kow if a T belt was done or not, should I do it or wait till it snaps as this is not a interference motor as I have been told.

what other preventive maintaince can I do? to make this thing last a long time.

No secrets other than what you mentioned. Regular maintenance, quality fluids and parts, and that's about it.

Regarding WOT........I subscribe to the theory that the car and engine likes to be opened up every once in a while.

I would change the timing belt now if I were you. Nothing worse than sitting on the roadside with a dead car. If you're a DIY'er, do a full tune-up (plugs, wires, caps, rotors, oil, filters), do the timing belt (and the water pump while you're there), and that's about it. Now you'l have a perfectly running vehicle that will get more looks than your buddy's and will more than likely spank their ***** down the freeway.

100k is just the start. you didn't even break in the engine yet. i have old ls400 beater with 200+

Under 7k with tax, title registration etc.

are the accelrator pedals on these cars suppose to be kinda heavy? I have driven some cars and you tap the accelerator and the car takes off leaps ahead. with mine you have to really smash the pedal in to get going. Is this a SC400 trait. I will jump on the plugs and wires soon getting stock stuff from toyota dealership. I will put a can of seafoam in the upper manifold as well.

I wouldn't say the pedal is "heavy", but there are some things.

1. The car weighs 3600+ lbs. It's not gonna be a monster off the line.
2. The transmission/torque converter also hurt the off the line performance.
3. Check your carpet by the accelerator pedal. The pedal does travel quite far and the carpet may bunch up in that area preventing full throttle application.


If you're looking for some improvement off the line I would recommend a higher stall speed torque converter or higher gears in the rear (say goodbye to marginal gas mileage).

Well let see the group I usually hang out with are high rollers and they drive the following:

1. 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe 6 speed
2. 2005 Acura TL
3. 2004 Maxima SE
4. 2004 BMW M3 SMG
5. 2004 Honda S2000 6 speed

I have a 95 SC400 and a 98 Mitsu Montero sport with only 52k miles. So I have my winter and summer car for less than what they payed for one car. Joy of buying "old" cars!.

So far I love the SC! I have to get some bushings etc the handling is not as good as my wifes 00 A6. After a good tune up and some handling mods I think I will leave it alone don't want to go crazy and mods it out making it less reliable for a DD. I might get back into a older Mustang 5.0 and screw around in that. I used to have one and it was cheap fun.
