The insurance company cut me a check for 9200 after much fighting. I bought my car back, so its got a bad title now. It is not worth much to other people. But I will never part with this car...it is worth a lot to me!

Timing seems to be a key factor in buying an sc under book value, if the owner is pleased with the car he will sell a little under book, if it really needs to be sold then youll get it a lot under book, I dont plan to be hurting to sell my car.

What do you think your car is valued at?

Mine was $12,800.00 for a 97 SC300 in excellent condition with 120,000miles. I think I could get $12,000 if I tried hard.

It's funny, back in the 90s when I had a car that was 10 years old it was REALLY old, but it doesn't feel like my car will be 10 years old in 07....

Why do American cars seem so old after 10 years?

Lexus ages better than any other car out there... only BMW and merc can come close. American cars age like milk... every US car ive driven that was more than 5 or 6 years old has felt absolutely awful regardless of miles. On the other hand, virtually all Lexus's ive driven regardless of age and mileage still felt liek new. Probably the best selling point of the car, and somethign the salesmen don't capitalize on.... every dealership should have a 10 yr old LS or SC on the lot just for demonstrations.

What someone ,"thinks" they can get and what they actually would get are two different things.
My SC300 was purchased for 30k+ years ago before most of you could legally drive and sold for less then 9k if memory serves. Blue book at that time was over 15k. Mine was prestine and very well maintained with all records. SC300's are not easy to dump as most want a SC400. At least back then.
My SC400 was a similar story. I was ,"thinking" I should get around 17k for it eventually sold for under 11k as it was on the market for over 2 months. Blue book was much higher. Again, very very clean example.
Keep in mind that this is in So Cal which does make a difference.

When mine is on the market, Ill be looking for 34.5K. I think the person responsible for the build, as well as the caliber of parts used, is just as important as the total dollar investment. You can have all the most expensive stuff out there, and it still may not stand out from a crowd. I learned very early on that throwing big dollars at a car has little to do with its resale value.

I just bought a 95 SC300 at a dealer for $5K. This car is the best condition I have ever seen an SC in that is this old. Everything is in perfect condtion, the only stuff I dont like is that its an auto and the tilt on the steering wheel doenst work. The paint, interior, and motor are all perfect. I would have paid $6K for it but they were asking $5K so I paid cash on the spot. I didnt even bother checking the blue book value. I have big plans for this guy...
