Default Might buy an SC400 soon.

I know someone who is selling an 93 SC400, by time I get the car it should have around 160K. The current vehicle I'm selling is a 95 Z28 convertible with 87K. I was wondering what kind of power does the SC400 produce in stock trim and how is the powerband. Plus most V8's that I know of are tired and need a rebuild around 160K, is this gonna be true with the 4.0 engine? I also notice that the online aftermarket seems rather limited when compared to the F-bodys. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places but is their much of an aftermarket for 4.0 engine? Thanks for the input.

Mods. wont be as cheap, but I used to own a 97 z28 hardtop with 25,000 miles on it, and I like the Lex. engine more, sure I wish it was 5 liters but when highway cruising I knock out 23 mpg.The Lex. is fast with class.

1UZ to a LT1...no comparo!!

The lex engine will outlast the LT1 by 100k miles...but in doing so you don't get the power and the mad torque you do with the LT1.

If your looking for power get a 2jz SC300 and boost it...you want class and not mess with it, stick with the SC400.

Also theLex. has great power seats, and does not have the 24 inch dash, or the big lump in the pass. side floor board of the camaro. You may not get the torque down low but love that quad cam howl and pull upstairs.

the v8 is not something you would buy if you're interested in modding really unless you REALLY want to be investing some heavy duty money. most people give up on trying to pioneer a lot of power with the 4.0 1UZ-FE motor, i think the highest we've seen out of a NA SC400 was 600 hp from some aussie.

the V8 is an awesome daily driver though and its what i currently have, i'm doing all cosmetic things on the exterior, changing interior, and upgrading suspension right now... the v8 can last up to like 300k+ miles, they are beasts when it comes to durability

the Inline 6 1JZ-GTE from the soarer (japanese version of the SC) or the 2JZ-GTE (from the supra tt) both have stock twin turbos and are usually swapped into our cars and given either a 5 speed or 6 speed and usually switched to single turbos and modded heavily.

If you want a good daily driver get the SC400 and squeeze all the miles out of it you can... if you want something you can mod and take to the track then get an sc300 and do an engine swap, theres much larger aftermarket for the 1jz or 2jz then the 1UZ

or do what im doing and get a 400 and use it as a daily driver until the engine kicks the bucket and make it into a track car!!! lol

hope that all helped

Basically what they said, if you want LS1 speed go sc300 and boost. The sc400 really isnt the best platform for power. Check out the forced induction section for more info.

If it's stock power in a V8 you're looking for out of this coupe....$ave up and get a 98+ sc400 . 290hp/300 torque w/ vvt-i engine.. You get 0-60 in 6 secs and a pretty ***** fast ride for a luxo coupe with good gas mileage. A little upgrade here and there will give you a lil boost. I just bought a 98 sc 400 and I believe I fell in love with the coupe again ( also have a 92 sc 300 w/ 222k miles---compared with the 98 it's like night and day)....the smoothest power I have ever experienced in my life in a car GL finding one though

Supercharge kit $3400 Dragon Torque converter $700 and Headers from the Aussies$600 and you will be in the mix.. this should put you at a solid 400+ hp..if you want more. you would need a swap or twin tubo set up. The SC400 engine is great.

not sure... I am still novice in the engine game... when I bought the car my intentions were to put some 20" on and no suspension mods CL can change anyone.

I would say older as the VVT-i motors don't like boost as much.

Thicker head gaskets reduce the compression ratio to allow for boost.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm trying to decide whether or not to sell the Camaro and purchase the Lexus. I'm currently in college right now doing a premed program and I want a car that is reliable, comfortable, and looks good. The Camaro's body does need some work and the AC does not work, however it does have every bolt on short of headers. Looks like I will have to trade my torque for comfort. The Lexus is just a more practical car.

Quick Reply: Might buy an SC400 soon.
