Here's a little tip a 10year Lexus mechanic told me.
Gas cap...if its original...change it. It was 15bucks at Lexus and made a world of difference. I was averaging 16-19 now I'm at 19-22 and for the big highway road trip....26-28.
As far as which is better on gas...get a freaking Prius

Well, is this pressure the same as when you open the cap with an almost empty tank and you hear the sound like a shhhhhhhhhhh sound coming out? I dont ever hear a leaking sound when the cap is on, but hell i'll give it a whirl, if i change it for 15 bucks and perhaps get a few mpg more

my '96 SC400:
Spring / summer w a/c off: 19 - 20 suburban driving
Winter: 17 - 18 suburban driving...
MPG goes down in the norther part of the country b/c of the switch to "winter blend" fuel about 5% or so and generally gas milage is worse while the car warms up.
Also 1992 -1997 SC400 factory EPA 18/22 mpg City/Highway; 1998 - 2000 factory EPA 19/25 mpg city/highway... why?? vvti & 5-speed trans... enjoy the COLD winter.... At least gas prices are going down: today's lowest by me $2.09 (89 octane)

Every once in a while when I take about a 5 hour mini-road-trip to go visit my mom I will fill up with 91 Octane (not 93), make sure my tires are inflated properly then hit the road; best average so far was 26.7mpg. (I think I got 475 miles before I filled back up, the light wasn't even on yet) 95 SC300, 5-speed.
Around town my mileage is horrendous, 15 maybe 16 at best. All I've really done with this car since I got it was to change all the fluids (except brakes) and change the cap/rotor, she's got 113k on her now, hoping for 113k more!

Thanks again for the replies....I drive my S2000 around town and what not, The bulk of the milage I drive is to and from school/to and from work, which I get right on the highway and right off.....so these figures sound decent to me, considering my 1.6L civic gets only 22-28mpg. . .
