Default ls400/regular gas/gas mileage

I have seen several comments about regular gas and gas mileage on the Lexus. I have a 1997 LS400 with slightly over 200K miles. I use it mostly for trips and Sunday. I just love the car. I have used regular gas ever since I got the car and I have never heard anything that sounds remotely like a ping. I am a "check the gas mileage nut" as everytime I fill up I check the mileage. The highest I ever got on a trip was 31.88 but it usually gets around 28-29 at 70 MPH. Around town I got under 20 MPG only one time and it was slightly over 19. One time I actually got slightly over 21 around town only driving. Now granted, I drive for MPG. My takeoffs are slow and my highway speeds are kept as contant as I can. Also, I might add that the worst I ever got on the highway was around 26 MPG. Also, I use synthetic oil and that may help the MPG some.
