Paging 928owner
928,
Can you give more details on how you trouble shoot the Nakamichi head unit? Did the power/volume button works. My volume works but I can't turn it off. The tape player work but I can't eject unless the engine is off (ign. off). When I push CD button or FM1/2 it doesn't change to CD or FM at all.
I know how to take the unit out. I can get my brother to help me with the soldering. I need your help on where and what to look for.
Anybody has any experience on this issue please jump in. I see there are a lot of lurker but no one offer any help If you don't know, reply that you can't help because you don't know.
Thanks in Advance
VQT

Your On/Off problem may be a result of the switch in the volume control being defective.
If your unit has never been worked on, the flex circuit which connects the front panel to the controls is more than likely intact. These usually get broken when someone monkeys with the deck. More than likely someone spilled some gunk on your deck.... coke, pepsi, bud? This stuff can get into the membrane switches and srew them up.
If you want to inspect for this CAREFULLY open the deck and remove the flex cable (a flexible trace that is used on a lot od speedometer) which attches the front swtiches to the rest of the deck. Their are plastic tabs on each side of the connector you have to "pop" up to allow the flex cable to be removed from the main unit. BE CAREFUL! DO NOT try forcing the cable out of the connector. If it won't come out, take it to someone who knows how to remove the connection, or you WILL break the flex cable. Once the cable is removed, you can remove the screws which attache the front panel to the rest of the deck. On the back of the front panel, you will see a bunch of small phillps screws holding a PC board in place. Using a small phuillips screwdriver, remove all of them. Now clean all the swtches which are covered by the rubber membrane with rubbing alchol. Re-assemble and cross your fingers.
Good luck!

BTW,
If you are not sure STOP and send the unit for repair. These are things one should not attempt unless they have some experience, so don't get yourself in over you head. I have fooling with electonics both professionally and as hoby for over 30 years, so for me it is "therapy".
Take care and BE CAREFULL!!!
93SC400 w/puple dragon TC, Rod M. Intake, RC ported TB and VERY soon N02 with a brand new Nitrous express system (waiting to be installed) Watch Out!!
