So the main advantage is that the wheels are 17s, as I thought they were lighter.

i was assuming due to size, i dont know the weight. they do look a whole lot better though.

I really HATE how the stock wheels sit inside the fender, and would like to go with something a bit more flush.

nope, no new studs needed. i was using the stock lug nuts and a lock. even being lowered, i didnt have any rubbing issues till the new tires went on, and some friends were in the back seat. thats whith a 275/40 out back.
