Default headlight question?

I love to see my high beam lights on at night, can I replace the bulb so that I can have 2 regular beams instead of leaving on the high beam light which is disturbing and dangerous to oncoming drivers?

No, it's not legal. That is, unless you can position your high beams to the same level as your driving lights.

If it's the visibility and the brightness that you like I would suggest investing in HID. It is trully an incredible change from standard bulbs. The aftermarket retrofits are around $400 and up, and are fairly easy to install now. www.***************** or I think www.overboost.com should have info on that. Good luck!

i've seen a kit sold at pep boys that reduces the light intensity of your high beams while your low beams are on. so at night, your high beams would be on at like 40% or something (i don't remember the exact number) with your lows. the packaging claimed that the mod is legal...

That doesn't seem to be the case with our headlights.

The regular "low beams" have a reflector which disperses light to where it's needed -- cuts off the top half. Whereas the high beams just have a protective glass housing. It does not disperse light, meaning light will go everywhere.

Even if you were to replace the bulb with the 55W bulb of the low beams, without replacing the lense and reflector, it is still a high beam light, only lower intensity. The only difference in bulbs is the high beams use a 65W bulb.
