Black switch/button under the accelerator?
What is that thing. I was cleaning out my 93 SC4 and noticed it when I went to put the floor mats back in. I just figured that it was there to to send a WOT (wide open throttle) signal to the ECU.
On the way home yesterday i floored it and when I reached around 105 mph,(at WOT) it felt like the accelerator had more resistance. I know these car have a speed governor, but that should kick in until 124mph (i think)
Any ideals?

Thanks everyone for the info. Once I get the new suspension I'll see how fast I can go before it gives up. The car drives great but 14 year old shocks don't like going too fast, especially when they have a leak.

I don't know of a speed limiter in our cars. Just maxes out at redline in top gear. I've had my car at 139mph and it was screaming at about 5500rpm. Don't think a limiter is needed beyond that. I would think the car would top out around 145 or 150 due to gearing.
Actually the button behind the accelerator acts similarly to the "power" switch by the shifter. Changes the shift points in the tranny, holding each gear longer. I've never experienced a downshift when that button is hit, just more revs upto redline like the ECT or ECT-i button in power mode.

Go at a constant 20mph...at this speed, you'd be in third gear. Hit the gas to the floor, but don't press the button and the car will shift into 2nd and pick up speed. REturn to 20mph constant speed. This time mash the gas and hit the button, car will jump into 2nd, then jump down to first and pull to 40 before it upshifts to second.
It doesn't work like the ECT PWR. It doesn't hold the gear anylonger, its simply just a kickdown switch. ECT PWR has its own functions, thats why it has its own switch. Go constant 20mph with ECT PWR ON and hit the gas to the floor without pressing the button. Unlike previously, even without hitting the button the car will downshift all the way to 1st gear, because this is what ECT PWR does. It changes the required throttle input to downshift. It also holds each gear a few hundred RPMs more before upshift.
SC4 is speed limited at 149mph I believe, and the SC3 is speed limited at 146mph.
