Question Vent ducting innards; cabin air filter?

I just bought a '95 SC400 for my wife. One plus this model had over other cars we considered was the cabin air filter. Oh, it doesn't have one? So much for research!

In her last car I added a cabin air filter, which I guess I'll have to do here. But the dash looks formidable. Is there an easy way into it? Is there any space once I get in there? Where is the best place in the ducting to place a filter? It needs to catch all the airflow, and it needs to be serviced periodically.

Another thought. Does anyone know if Lexus put cabin air filters in other models or later years that might have interchangeable components (or with only slight mods)?

there is a cabin air filter system, but for some reason on the earlier models, lexus decided not put a filter in there. if you go to your passenger side, get on the floor and look directly up behind the glovebox, you will see the panel to open. the trick is finding a filter for it.

I did this, ordered from Carson for my '96. There was no filter in there, and I had to cut the filter. You're probably better off to just make your own active charcoal filter & stick it in there...

Before you remove the little panel, spread newspapers in the passenger footwell. Don't be looking right up at the thing when you pull it off! If there's no filter element there, you will get a big pile of crud, dead bugs, etc. when you remove the cover. Installing the oem filter is a bit tricky, but the info sheet that comes with the filter sorta helps. Look at the thread mentioned above, too.

*bump*

i used the search function for the first time in my life.

quick question: is the filter the same for a 92 as it would be for a 95? if so, i may try the same thing as over40driv and call my lexus dealer. maybe they will have it.

if anyone cares.. i have this message saved up in my computer about the size of the filter.. btw there are 2 filters in there..

"1.9 cm in width
and contains two filter squares joined by a flexible plastic hinge.

Each box is 9.5 cm by 11 cm

(on the longer, hinged side). Each box contains about 30 folds 8.5 cm in length.

Don't be so alarmed by the bottom 2. My brand new OEM filters look very dark out of the bag because the new filters were embedded with charcoal. I've actually never seen the top 2.. they're very white. Are they OEM?

Finally, I just put in the filter. It's a good fits in there just right. Turns out this filter will also go in the 1GS. I don't know if the 1GS is the same as the 2SC where they decided to leave out the filter.

The part number on my box says 88508-24010, maybe the Soarer uses a different one?
