Should I give up on my quest for an SC300?
I have been looking for a 5 speed SC300 for almost 2 years. I am so close in giving up for a quality SC300. Not many of you know my story so if you are interested read on....
I am a college student in my second year. I have been driving a 1985 toyota celica ever since I had my license (16years). I have such a great passion for cars. I remember taking it out and for the first time and having the biggest smile on my face after. I have had this car for almost 5 years, and I did all of the maintenance myself, I learned so much from it. Now it is at that point where it is falling apart. It embarrassing having a car with a ripped interior, making strange sounds, and does not start half the time. I spent time and money repairing this car, but at near 400,00 miles it's time is up.
During this time, I fell in love with the Lexus Sc300. In my opinion, it was an engineering marvel and had a timeless design. I knew I had to start saving up for it. Now before anyone jumps to conclusions, I am not from a rich family and I was never spoiled. I was always taught to get out there and do things for myself. My family has always been very supportive of me, but it has been some tough times for all of us.
I had the money saved up and found a very nice SC, but at the last minute, I had to use it for an emergency situation. It was a 95, with 130k miles for 6,500. Now, I have saved up around 6k, but cannot find any nice SC's for that price. It is so difficult especially in the bay area. The only ones I find are battered 92's with 160k++ miles. I really do not want to buy one with problems or that is not presentable. My car's life is almost over, it will last approx 1-2 more weeks (the tires keep wearing on the inside because of a suspension problem).
I am very close to saying forget it, and to just buy a beater civic for 4k.
I have been on many, many other forums, and find this the most helpful and contains the most courteous people. I usually not one to post my personal stories on here, but I knew the members of ClubLexus could always help me out, especially in this decision.
I just need some inspiration/advice. Thanks guys and sorry for the long read.

Dude, don't give up, because that instant that you do, there will be one in the ads when you bought something else... so yea, in a way, kind of "do" stop searching and it will come right up...
And by the way... me and my cousins bought cars from the bay area... especially my 1st SC 300.. but it was a/t for $6k at 106K miles...

Wow dude sry to hear about your luck. I would say keep looking for an SC. IMO an SC is better then any beater civic.. But if you absolutly have then go with what is avalible to you. Best of luck!

You should keep looking. If you can't get a 95 get a 94 they're just as good The SC is a really nice car, and the shape still looks new. Keep looking, as when you do get one (TT!!!) the power you get with the engine is great.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It is really hard to find 5 speeds, but I am willing to travel to SoCal if there is a really good deal. I am looking at one that is a 92 with 150k for 6,500. I think that is way too pricey when I see people getting much newer SC's, lower miles and around the same money.

Don't give up mate, you'll eventually find one. Remember, if you're going for an SC3 and planning for an engine swap etc. you don't have to find a manual straight away, just take the cleanest auto SC3 you can find and wait to put the new motor/gearbox in
Good luck in your search.
Good luck in your search.

I settled for a really clean auto and I'm planning on doing the 5-speed swap. But lately after driving my 5-speed 240s I have been liking my auto SC more and more. Good luck with your search.
