Judging by this photo, in addition to removing the diffuser, you have to break the smaller diffusers that are affixed to the reflector housing. Looks to be quite an involved process.
I would love to see those lights w/o the diffuser on during the night. It would either look great or cheap. Wonder which one... come on imagination, work!

you can always swap back if you hate it sufficicently enough to justify going into surgery again.

The reflector in there appears to be some sort of satin gray finish - what do ya think about getting some chrome spray paint and painting it chrome??? might be a little more reflective huh?
My taillights have the diffuser removed throughout the entire taillight. Some people don't like the way it looks being able to look at the light and see the bulb, but at night I've heard it looks awesome from people driving behind me.
