Unhappy 95 SC300 Sell Or Fix? What To do?

OK here's my story. I bought the car 7 years ago. This year I had to replace the alternator and battery. I will have to replace the valve cover gasket, distributer seal, and the timing belt (pretty sure). There's an oil leak although the mechanics are trying to figure out where since I need to put in 2 quarts of oil in between oil changes. My CD player is giving me the err display. I have already replaced the driver's window regulator, the antenna mast and the control arm bushings (from TM Engineering). MY mechanic wants me to think about how attached I am to my 95 SC300. It was my dream car and it's a stick! Is it worth it?? I'll probably spend 3K fixing these and I have no idea how to deal with the CD changer. What's a Los Angeles Lexi girl to do? Advice please. THANKS!!!!!

how many miles do you have on the car? maybe it's time to do a swap or na-t! timing belt and water pump is just maintenance.

It is all maintance, and you shouldn't spend 3K for fixing it...
I say keep it...

Hey lalexigirl,

Most of what you've listed sounds like mileage related maintenance or age related parts replacement. You have to expect these repairs with an older car. I'd be more worried about the oil leak - 2 quarts every few thousand miles is a lot. Do you actually find a puddle of oil after you've been parked awhile? If so, I'd expect to find a telltale trail of oil from the leak, caked on your engine. On the other hand, if the engine is burning it, then it's a pretty bad sign since it is a lot of oil.

I'd stop all other engine repairs/maintenance until you find the cause of the leak.

I'd also post this question in the SC forums.

Good luck!

Moved to SC forum.

The car is worth whatever you want to put into it. If you like it, fix it and you'll enjoy it when it id done. Remember however, mechanics will make more off the car in repairs than the parts themselves. Perhaps a "handy man" is in order to help you out in your repairs.

On the other hand, you've had it for 7 years............ 'bout time to do some kind of work.

Laugh, I'd pay that in a heartbeat if there actually existed one SINGLE shop in Portland Oregon that has COMPETENCE to do it. The thing that sucks about Portland aside from the rain, there simply are not any reputable shops that convince me that they can touch my car. I'd have the thing shipped to ANY other state to have work done before some greeseball crater faced hat wearing punk touched my SC!!

Oh and I say you keep it, repair it, you have a rare 5 speed model!!
