One of the lights out in the climate control
Hey Guys,
I just purchased a 98 sc300 and have been loving the car thus far. I have a minor problem. One of the lights in my climate control is out. If you look at it at night, the strip where they show the different modes (the pictures of people and the arrows) it is dim in the middle of the section. Is this hard to replace? My car is going to be in the shop to have a radio installed tomorrow. Is this something they can fix easily while installing the radio?

The LX 84999-60360 came with the grey base.
Pro's to DIY- Save some downtime in shipping your unit, price will be the same either way as it would sending out to LLS for standard bulb replacement. possibly more depending on which lexus dealer you buy them from since dealers fluctuate on prices.
Con's to DIY- Flexxing in the LCD causes the seals on the glass to crack and leads to LCD bleed. Essentially you can replace the bulbs tomorrow and sometime between tomorrow night and 5 months from now your LCD will go black as night if hairline cracks developed while you were bending the LCD out to get to the bulbs. That's a $250 mistake on top of the bulb price. The only proper way to remove the bulbs is to de-solder the LCD pins which is a tiring task and requires a special de-soldering iron. If you flex the screen and do not de-solder the LCD, you have a 70% chance of causing cracks in the seal of the LCD.
Either way you've been warned, here's the part number........

PS- to the OP...... Your "mechanic" does not have this de-soldering tool which is unlike any of the other de-soldering irons that are typical one hole units.
If he repairs it and you drive away happy, in a few months you might not be so giddy when the screen turns black so if you have this done or if you do it yourself, makes no matter to the final point I make - be good and sure it is done correctly.
