Some of ya'll have been reading my posts, and know the story behind my trunk leak. Welp, I finally traced it down to the body seam behind the passenger side headlights. Its not sealed with whatever sealant they're supposed to use. So, my question is, what is the *best* sealant for the job? Anybody know what they use at the factory?

As for the big hose, I noticed over on both sides of the car, there's a really big clear plastic hose that runs down into the trunk and drains out of the fender....anybody know what this drains? Sunroof? I need to dump some water down it wherever it starts, and make sure it doesn't leak.

 

Having run an offshore tuna fishing boat many years, and taking care of small troublesome leaks quite a few times I would venture to say that if you can go to a boating supply store and get your hands on some Marine Grade silicone sealant it would do the trick and last nearly forever. This stufff comes in two colors, clear or white. It is inteneded for severe outdoor saltwater marine applications and would feel at home in a car wheel well.

It comes in a tube like toothpaste or in a caulking gun cartridge for larger applications.

You can feather it out and make the bead of it very smooth if you put some dish washing detergent on your index finger (liberal amount) and use the finger in one direction only to smooth out and feather the bead. The detergent will act as a lube. Do not get this stuff on your clothes. It will act as an adhesive as well.

This product will cure both above and below the water line (submerged). Put a blob of it onto a piece of cardboard to test for cure.

The stuff stays very flexible and lasts forever. I hope this helps.
