Default Supra TT brakes on our cars?

Alright I know compwiz has supra tt big brake upgrade on his car but those only come off the 6-speed versions not the auto's right? I'm asking because I'm looking to get the upgrade myself and my friend's dad has a 94 tt supra auto but doesn't have the cross drilled rotors. Also when I'm going lets say anywhere over 95 mph and I hit my brakes my car of course vibrates and just doesn't feel too good. I know this will happen in any car but when I get a brake upgrade like this will it stop and just come to a quicker smooth stop? THanks, Adam

Adam,
the Supra does not usually come with cross-drilled/slotted brakes stock. You can get them but, it is an aftermarket component. As for the vibration. I don't know where you got the idea that brake vibration is normal but, it is not. It can be due to a number of things. You should have it checked ouy but, it can be remedied most lilely with or without the Supra brake upgrade.

Adam, have you had your rotors turned/shaved, new pads? I also changed flushed/changed all brake fluid with synthetic fluid. It made a hell of a difference in the feel at higher speeds.

This simple brake maintenace will provide a significant feeling.

Adam have your rotors checked to see if they are warped, which can cause "shuttering" too.

Ya the factory cars dont have crossdrilled rotors....mine were aftermarket ones that the person had bought. In looking at parts.com, both the auto and std Supra TT use the same brakes.

I have *no* wobble when I brake from about 140 - 40, just did that today. Granted my rotors have some stress cracks in them at the edges of the cross-drilled holes, but that's from many MANY high speed stops.

On that note...heh...this brand new Golf GTI 1.8T with a chip running 24lbs of boost today decided to run me. He was like no way that heavy lex is gonna win.

Well at least 3 carlengths ahead, and that was even smoking thru 1st. Damn I need some WIDE tires! grrr That GTI was damn fast...for a VW.

CmputerWiz,
Glad to hear your car is up and running again. Eveything go okay with repairs and such. Hope it turned out in your favor.

Well, just to let you guys know, there is no differences between auto Supra and 6 spped other than tranny. Same breaks! The only Supra that doesn't need (not in my opinion) such breaks is N/A Supra. The N/A Supra has the same sucky breaks our cars do. The vibration you are experiencing is most likely the warped rotors. I have the same thing. That's what happens when you break at high speeds in a 3500+ lbs car.

The stock Supra brakes will bolt right on the Supra, but not with your stock wheels. You will need at least 17" wheels to clear the rotors.

As far as brake vibration at speed, as mentioned earlier, either warped rotors, or, more likely, worn suspension parts. The bigger brakes won't stop vibration, just give greater stopping power with less fade under pressure!
