I was using Zaino on my car (Z5), and suddenly some red stuff came off on applicator. I was like WTH, cause my car is red, so I was wondering what happen. Did the paint smear off? Anybody know..

Dude, I have used Zaino for about 3 years and that has happened to two of the cars I have applied it to. One of the cars was an 86 Tempo and the other was my girl's old eclipse. The reason it happens is because the car has not been waxed in a while and there is some dead paint on the car. It is kinda like washed your face and you get a layer that comes off everytime. The more you do it, the less noticeable it will be. Nothing is wrong with it

Well, that is a new one. If you are using Zaino Z5, then you must have Z1'ed the car some time in the past? Yes? How long ago? How long has it been since the last Z2 application?
The Lexus red paints, if factory are clearcoats. Perhaps, did you at any time use any of the Red Turtle wax on the car? It has a pigment.
Let us know what your Zaino application schedule was. I have a garnet red Lexus and at no time did I have any color coming off. I used the Dawn, Dawn, Claybar, Dawn, Z1, Z2, Z2, Z2 schedule. I then used Z5 only on areas that seem to need it to remove any swirl marks. Then followed it with Z2 again.
What exactly was the sequence that you used?

double check this one buddy!!
No red should come off the Lexus coupes unless:
- you used colored wax.
- you broke through the clearcoat
- the car was repainted with lower quality paint.
Look at the car closely in daylight, not to bright, but on a sunny day. Check for variations in the paint. Does the color come off in all areas or just certain areas?
I doubt it is the zaino formula, probably one of the above three.

I think that perhaps you have a very good point. I would bet that at some time in the past his SC had some sort of repaint job done, or the clearcoat has been eroded.

Overspray
You think it might be paint overspray that it's taking off? It came off at the edge of the hood - just a small area, if so what steps should I take to minize the damage.

Well, once you get finished with the Zaino 1 and 5 then if you stay just with Zaino 2 you should not have any problems. I have 6 coats of Zaino 2 on my SC and the thick luster and wet look build up a barrier. That barrier should protect your pigment well. WHen you mentioned overspray, are you telling us that indeed the car was repainted at some time? IF so, it would appear that the folks that did the painting did not spray on a clearcoat afterwards. THis means that you must keep those repainted areas well protected. The Zaino should do the trick. Good Luck. BTW, what year is your SC300?

=)
Thanks for all the help guys, I'm proud owner of a 94 SC300 bought new and still alive at over 200,000 + miles. It's my pride and joy since it looks better than when it came off the show room floor. I also have a 2002 Electron Blue Vette, those are my 2 babies hehe.
PS
So I guess what you guys are saying is that Zaino forms it's own clearcoat barrier to protect? What do you guys think of 3M products for cars just wondering.
