For 96 model you can get a LT4 with Grand Sports, limited edition (silver color with ZR-1 style wheels) and a few more I think. The rear bumber should has an LT4 signature. To make sure you should check the engine bay. The wheels should be at least 275-40-17 on all fours or 275-40-17 front and 285-35-18 rear Stock.
The difference between LT1 and LT4 is Crane roller rocker arms, hot cam, and roller timing chain. 300Hp vs 330Hp, GM under rate the LT4 engine. It has much more than 330Hp.
C5 has at least 345Hp

Actually all 96 Corvettes with 6spd manual are LT4's. They are rippers.
Some people call them crude truck engines. A hammer is a crude way to break eggs, but the eggs sure do get broken!

The LT4 was only available with the 6 speed as has been mentioned above. There were about 6,000 produced. There is no way to tell if it is an LT4 from the outside unless it is a Grand Sport- Blue with a white stripe.
I have a Grand Sport Convertible, and the LT4 motors dyno around 355 hp. I love my SC400, but it is not a Corvette, nor would I want it to be a Corvette.
The LT1 Autos are pretty quick, even if they have the crappy 2.59 rear, so good luck.
