Absolutely! Sounds like a great idea.

With all of the recent losses in the SC family, it seems like it would be somewhat practical to start & maintain an SC3/4 total loss VIN registry here on CL. The guys over on nsxprime have doen this for quite a while, and though their cars are 2-10 times the value of (most of)ours, it seems like a solid concept. This way people will have another resource when shopping for an SC(or any other Lex on CL if we can get the others on board). Someone may WANT to pick up a salvaged vehicle for track/parts use, but the majority just don't know, especially if the title has been washed. Just a thought. Opinions?

That's what carfax is for. Our guy's all carry insurance and once it is paid off, it goes in the national database.
Fact of the matter is that once a car is totaled around he it is parted out since the book value of an older sc isn't much to begin with. These cars just aren't worth enough to rebuild, so there is not an issue with salvage like there is on the NSX board.
Once these get totaled, 99% of them are in a million pieces and being sold by Gazi the next day

Unfortunately no. The ITR's have one-up on us in that dept. You know, the total loss aspect of this is only one area, but as the price of these vehicles further depreciates, then they will be futher in demand. This will increase the instances of total theft and vandalism, where only the easily removed parts are taken and the rest is left. Ask the honda crowd. Whatever is most popular @ the time gets targeted. I see 1jz and gte swaps becoming the new b18c5/c1 and h22a thefts in the not too distant future. I can also see the prevalence of totalled vehicles that are resurrected and resold to unsuspecting people increasing. Insurance & carfax notwithstanding. If you know what you are doing(and it isn't that difficult) you can keep information off a carfax report or wash the title so that it is no longer a salvage vehicle. Some states are making this more difficult to accomplish now, but others have loopholes big enough to tow a totalled semi through. Just seemed like a good idea, and really would either only require one additional forum that member could contribute their info, or acquired info, that was only accessable by mods in order to prevent abuse of the info, or an individual registry in each car forum.
