Default SC400 Worth it or not????

Im new to the forums and have never owned a lexus before, but i found a 1993 lexus sc400 with 116k auto. The timing belt was done at 100k and doesnt have any known problems. Are these cars pretty reliable and what are common problems with these cars? also he wants $7700 obo, is that a good price? The outside and inside are very clean also

That's almost the same I paid for my '95 SC400: $7989 w/ 129-130k miles. One thing you should know is that the timing belt, water pump, etc. may need to be replaced soon on it. After I bought mine, I had maintenance/a tune-up done on it, not at Lexus but at a local high-end import shop that had received good reviews. The total came to $1911 but he charged me $1850. It completely wiped out most of my savings. So that is the only thing I would caution you over. The parts are very expensive, more expensive than Mercedes parts even because Toyotas'/Lexus' rarely break down, etc.

I will never purchase another car from a used car dealer because they don't do any kind of maintenance or anything on it; they just clean it a little and try to make a profit. I figured the timing belt had already been done since it was well passed 100k miles but it wasn't. If yours has already been done, it's likely that other things have been done, too hopefully so that will save you some money.

My SC400 has been VERY reliable, haven't had any problems. It's been great. This is my first Lexus/Toyota, too.

Also, I would see how low they could go on the price. Here is a link to average prices for the SC. It's showing $5,000-6,000 for a '93 SC400 in good condition (low mileage, etc.) and $4,300-5,100 for average condition (average mileage, etc.).

I got my 93 SC400 for $7K with only 88K miles on it. If you want to get that one, see if they'll go lower. It's a great car btw.

Many answers here under search, but for the asking price-too steep. If it is in great condition with records then $6000 would be more reasonable.
