If you are going to do maintenance yourself, the I6 and the V8 (SC/LS) both has its ups and downs. For example, changing the spark plugs will probably take longer on the I6 than the V8, but changing the starter is alot tougher on the V8. From my readings, the I6 is slightly easier to work on overall in my opinion.

Also you are correct, the ES is based off the Camry. The earlier ES/RX share the same engine as the V6 Camry, but not sure about the newer ones.

BTW, I'm 6' 220lbs and the SC is pretty comfy. My seat is moved pretty far back so no one can sit behind me unless they sit indian style. Occasionally my head hits the ceiling on bumps. I went from a 98 Accord to the SC and at first it took some time getting used to, but it feels great now. Hope you find the car that fits you and good luck.

It can go either way... I am 6'2" slightly over 300....lol and I love my SC. I also like the feel of the LS. (I am trying to buy my aunts) I can't drive my car longer than 4 hours...

I've ready the FAQs, so I know the things to look for from there.

Is there anything else that I should be aware of when looking at a used SC? I've bought a lot of used cars, so the basics I've got just looking for anything in specific to watch for.

I'm really leaning toward an LS400 right now, but it will probably come down to buying the nicest car I can find for the money, be that an LS or an SC.

I'm fairly tall (6'3") but I'm not that big (170lb) so I don't know how you'd feel in the SC, but I'm guessing the sports car-style cabin would take some getting used to after a truck. At 6 feet I doubt you'd have any problems with headroom, but the interior of the SC isn't nearly as spacious as the LS, so be aware of that issue when you test the cars.

I can tell you right now that the LS is a lot more practical as a daily driver than the SC. Roomier, cushier, quieter, etc. There's also more room in the LS's engine bay. But it's hard to beat the prestige of driving around in a Lexus coupe, and I'll be a fan of the FR 2-door until the day I die. Bottom line, they're both excellent cars and they'll both probably exceed your expectations. So I would say, as long as you know what you need out of a car, when you test them both you'll have no trouble deciding which is right for you.
