A good chrome shop could do the calipers, you will need to replace all the seals and make sure it's done by someone who is familiar with what *not* to do when chroming a caliper. You could do the rotors too but the first time you touch the brakes the chrome will be ruined.

For anything other than a show car that does nothing but sit on a pedastal I'd consider it an incredible waste of time and money

I have a set of front and rear nickle plated drilled and slotted rotors for my SC400. They have recently just come in so I have not had them installed yet. The custom shop that I bought them from did show pictures of them vs the standard rotors. THey are much much brighter. How long they will last that way is unknown. Time will tell. I plan on using caliper paint to paint my calipers black. I will be using carbon kevlar pads to minimize dust and ordered some stainless brake fluid lines as well. I plan on installing the whole setup in the springtime. These should look good with the new 18 inch wheels. The plated brake rotors is a viable option. Chroming the calipers would require them to be reworked after the chroming process. I bet the price of that would be very expensive as the chrome would get into everything.

Sounds interesting! How much did those rotors run you?

These were about $320 for all four rotors, front and back, nickle plated. I got them from a firm called RaceConcepts. The guy there is named Wood. Nice guy, quick shipper. Nice new brakes. They are drilled and slotted. His email is raceconcepts@mindspring.com Email him for his phone number and discuss these with him. I have a picture of them but it is a .ART photo which this system does not allow an upload for. Ask Wood to send you some photos, OK?

Again, I have not installed these yet so I do not know how long they will remain brite and shiney. The longevity of these rotors is supposed to outlast the normal rotors. The drilled and slotted rotors tend to not overheat so they do not warp. The risk you do take is that IF they ever warp you cannot turn them.

That said, turning rotors is not cheap in any case SO at the price mentioned above, the turning costs with labor would nearly be the same as buying another set. Dugh!! Installing rotors is a snap, once you have done it once you will see. The braided stainless steel brake lines, once installed, even make it easier. ComputerWiz posted a picture step by step supra brake changeover thread which shows the basics of the rotor changeout operation.

It costs $5 to turn a rotor!!!!!! If 5$ isn't cheap, what is?

Hey Now....

When was the last time you got a FULL quote on rotor turning form a reputable mechanic???

There is at least 2 hours of labor involved and that amount of labor time is just to get the four rotors off of a car, not the turning time. Not to mention that most shops, after turning rotors will not reinstall the old pads on the newly turned rotors for good reason. They will not mate or bed well. I have NEVER had a rotor turn job cost less than $50 per rotor and to that add the cost of the new pads. $5 per rotor.... I cannot stop laughing.... I can just see me now pulling into a garage and tell them to turn all four of my rotors for $20 bucks.

The typical result will be a nice spit thru the teeth.... and you know what that means in mechanics parlance....
