I have been drawing up plans, looking through countless diagrams, chopping wires, cutting plexiglass, and drank a few gallons of coffee, but I have decided that this can be done and I am going to do it.
Subjects:
1992 US spec SC400 auto cluster
1994 JDM spec Soarer auto cluster
Goal:
I am going to "ghost" the soarer cluster behind the Sc400 cluster glass using smoked plexi that I have cut out to replace the original face of the SC cluster (see pic).
I will be removing the GAS and TEMP needles and motors from the SC spec unit. The Soarer digital read outs will be visible through the smoked plexi where the SC needles should be. They along with the motor assemblies will be completely removed and discarded.
The Soarer digital tach will be disabled, but everything else including the PRNDL will be used.
The visible face of the new combo unit will only have two visible needles and the markings for each reading will be done custom on the new plexi face to work around showing the speed from the Soarer read out in the center.
There will be no backlight which will allow the needles to "float" in open space and ghost at night. I am considering using the tracker needle.
I have already done a custom face for a cluster before HERE and I have already fired custom lettering before like THIS (same cluster with the backlight turned on).
Here's a few pics with the last one being close to what I am looking to come out with minus the dash numbers which I have not decided what I am going to do so I didn't include them in the chop.
The numbers are going to make this cluster's looks completely. I imagine a complete ghost effect.

The PLEXI face, cut to spec, but not yet smoked.

Close to what it will look like, but without the numbers which will make the cluster complete looking. The Speedo numbers will not be painted on, they will be hidden and controlled by a **** for intensity incase I want them to shadow out at night. The PRND and time are missing from this and making it look incomplete.

Your sir, are Crazy. I hope that works out! All modifications start in the noodle and eventually end up on the car, I can't wait to see the progress in this! Good luck! Someone in the classifieds is selling another soarer digital dash so if you need a spare or whatnot look that way.

Here's what I am thinking on when I make the numbers. They'll be small and tight, on a separately controlled dimmer.
The illusion will be the shadowed numbers, the needles moving past them and the digital speedo constantly changing behind it all with the option to dim either the numbers or the digital readouts.
Kinda like... 1 day JDM, 1 day USDM, one day both.![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

HOT!!!! I soooo want a USDM dash ![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I was thinking about getting the USDM dash and discarding the top section of the JDM part to be replaced with the analogue dials... dunno if it'll work though.
