Question Power Steering Revisited

Had power steering pump replaced and had a question regarding the thread we had last week. Did anyone ever find out if there is a filter on the rack and pinion. If there is I would like to get a part number if anyone has replaced it. Talked to my mechanic and he said he didn't see where a filter could be.

Thanks Shane

Hi SSsmith,

The older LS has filter on the rack, The SC i doubt has one. I bought my PS pump for ES from www.autozone.com for $108.00 plus $7 shipping and $13.41 tax. How much did you buy yours?

SSsmith,
Start shopping for the alternator now, the alternator will goes soon. Unless you found out about the P/S leaks and fix it within a short time.

Erfan,

Yes, it is Atsco and the company is from AZ. How much are youpaying for this job. Can you change the pump yourself? Its look hard but is you can change the SC400 spark plugs you can do this too.
I must admit, at the time I was changing the P/S pump I wished that I have more money so I can have someone else do this work. I am glad that I did the work myself so I knew (what plastic pieces that hold those wires) I broke

I am going in at 7 a.m. and it is going to cost 285.00 for the total labor charge. I donot do any work on my Lexus at all, except change the battery and wash and wax it. I pay someone else to do the dirty work and knows what they are doing

Hey guys, I paid 325.00 for new Lexus pump w/Gasket and it cost me 135.00 to have it installed. Fortunately mine never leaked, just started whining real bad and then just quit. New pump on and everything is back to normal. Anymore repairs and this thing is going to be brand new.

SSsmith,
What dealer did you get it from for $325.00? Did you tried Carson Toyota, Steve Ganz 800-908-6968 I think he can sell it cheaper.

$135 vs $285 is a big different.
$135 is more like it.

Haven't spoken with Steve yet. I need to call him about getting slotted rotors for the rear. I just put on a set of MOMO Arrows and my rear disc look horrible. I've been buying all my parts from Thompson Lexus. They are on the internet as Irontoad.com. Ryan is one of the sales guys who's been taken care of me. I think they sell everything for about 20% over cost. So far he has been the only one patient enough with me since I have been replacing a bunch of nick nack parts. As far as the install on the pump, I watched the mechanic, it took him about an hour and a half. I think 285.00 is pretty high. It hard to find a good mechanic though. I was going to do it myself until he quoted me my price.

I don't think Steve has slotted rotor for the rear. If he does can you post the price. He told me about the front slotted rotor (TRD) for the GS400 fit the front SC400 but he doesn't have the rear...

I have been through the complete steering sys.
for the SC and there is NO filter anywhere!!!
Just dreaming to think there is filter clogged.
Pumps go bad usually from shaft seal failure,
racks can leak from seal ends or have valve
failure and cause pump to make squeeling sound
and try to blow fluid back through pump top.

My Lexus Es300 is transverse mount V6, labor is double that of your SC400:eek: Lots of work because of the way the engine is in there sideways, hard to get to stuff, Like the on the other bank toward the firewall, and the valve cover gaskets.
