Default $1.00 window regulator fix (not the plastic piece, don't get your hopes up)

My window started going up and down slowly. Without tearing open the door, I figured it was the common window regulator problem. I bought a new oem regulator and was ready to replace. I opened the door and tried the window. The regulator tabs were perfect. Turns out the rear window guide had the welds pop off. I went to the hardware store, bought a dollar worth of machine screws, drilled out the welds and screwed the bracket back on.

Hope this helps for anyone who believes the window regulator may be bad. Take a few minutes and check inside. It would have saved me $147.00. Now I will post the regulator for sale.

And the simple fix.

Did your windows have a hard time going up and down while half way up? If so, did this cure that problem?

This was exactly the problem. It would not go past the half way point. I just assumed it was the regulator. I would just suggest to everyone that they check inside before investing in an expensive regulator. This cured my problem 100%. Good luck.

Doubtful that this has anything to do with it. Most of the time the tabs break, but the window still sits on the metal piece in the line so it will stay up and "free fall" when the metal piece goes down via the controller, but is not actually in the tab to be able to pull it back up.

I checked the inside of my door today. That wasn't the problem. although the window went down a little easier after spraying a lot of silicone lube spray on the windows tracks

OLT- i think you're right. it sounds more like the tab than it does this fix. with the tab fix/cure do you just need to buy that one white tab piece and replace it? pretty cheap/easy to do?

I think it might be hard to find just the white tab piece. you could get a used regulator and hopefully the piece is still good. My plastic piece is busted but I just pulled it out of the track and put it to the right side so there is still good tension...good temporary fix until I can afford a regulator. I think it only works if the top tab is broken...i.e. the window goes down but not up.
