Default Brakes

To anybody that can suggest anything:

My GF recently noticed that you have to push down really hard on the pedal in order to stop the car, even when simply idling. I was wondering how I could increase my breaking sensitivity, as the power of the brakes seems to be fine, with the problem just being that to get to this power, you have to push down extensively hard. I had my brakes checked a little while ago, and everything seemed to be fine, and the pads are relatively new.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Tim

Lightbulb Brakes

Check your brake lines. Upgrading to stainless steel lines should give you better response. Hope this helps.

Hummm... that does not sound right, the 3 SC's that I have driven all had breaks that grabbed real well. I think I would suggest to you to have your brakes checks and especially have the lines bled. You may have some air in the lines which causes a spongy or soft break feedback. Also you can visually check the reservoir, how much brake fluid is in it? Since most of the breaking is done by the front calipers and rotors, special attention should be placed on them.

Thought you mentioned that you had the brakes checked. Air in the lines would cause a spongy feel....low fluid should give you an indication(brake light).
Dont know your year, but old rubber lines can sometimes flex or bulge under the pressure. Thats why I suggested checking your lines. Replacing your stock rubber lines (if old) or up-grading will give you better response

Have your brake system bled. That should get rid of the spongy feeling

Funny, I was doing some makeshift slalom runs the other day, car handled pretty well, stuck well enough through the turns that the brake fluid in the reservoir sloshed to one side (yes, it was full)and caused my brake light to come on! Never seen that one before. Just thought you'd get a kick...
