How is a cat with claws "helpless?"

Well, that's why I said "essentially." When pitted an animal such as a large/viscious dog (like the German Sheppard in Dx3's sig), the cat is essentially helpless. Small claws probably wont do much in the face of large jaws that could snap the cat in half. Plus, a small number of cats have been de-clawed, although that is considered by many to be cruel.

If it was a cat vs a chiwawa, that might be a different story ha ha.

LOL. I have both a family and a house. I also have more than 2 cars. And yes I agree, many humans are more useless than cats.

By law, at least in the area in which I live, there is a city ordinance that all cats, if outside, should be on a leash. If a cat is not on a leash, thus breaking the law, and damaging my property, then yes, I do hope this "essentially helpless creature" feels the wrath of a .22 or a dogs teeth. I am pretty sure you and your girlfriend could wage all the "war" you want, but at the end of the day, if your cat is not on a leash, is on my property, and destroying my property, then you don't have much of a leg to stand on.

Not to mention that my home insurance would cover this, not me. So how you are planning on draining my bank account still confuses me.

Your argument is flawed, and you are ill-informed. Go ask your girlfriend for a better defense.

PS - Smaller animals being killed by larger animals is not what I may call "archaic", rather I would term it "natures workings."

Well you really have nothing to worry about then, Dx3. Just park the cars you care about the most in the garage. Duh!

Interesting, that cats must be on a leash where you live. However, the majority of cities/counties, to my knowledge, have no such ordinance (including mine).

Your homeowners insurance covers financial penalties associated with criminal and tort law offenses committed on your property? Wow, that must be a fantastic policy. OJ Simpson should have had one of those; that way he wouldn't have to worry about the $25M+ civil suit(s) from the Goldman's and the Brown's! I'll have to look into one of those. Then I can act any way I want with fiscal impunity. Sweet!

Sicking your dogs on a cat, shooting a cat with a .22 for simply being on your property? That is, by almost any standard, incompatible with the level of civility required to function successfully in modern American society and are clearly examples of irrational and psychotic acts. Even if you kill one cat, there are probably more to take it's place. It's a futile, ridiculous, and potentially incriminating battle.

What if a little kid, (who has more intelligence than a cat, and therefore should know to stay off your property) that should lawfully be under the watch of a supervisory individual, were roaming around on/ unintentionally damaging your property? Would you sick your dogs on or shoot him/her? According to your argument, that would be permissible. Simply because there is a law prohibiting a given circumstance doesn't mean it is up to you to carry out your prejudiced idea of vigilante "justice." Those are functions often best served by the police and legal system.

PS: Smaller animals being killed by larger animals is "natures workings?" Lol, ok. Humans are obviously animals (simply more intelligent and therefore more prolific than many other animals). Can a fat man go around killing skinny people? Can we let the lions and tigers out of the zoo to roam around and eat people? After all, it’s just "natures workings," and it’s A-ok.

All: Sorry for taking this thread a little off topic (although still loosely related). Dx3 just infuriated me with his apparent lack of civility and blatent disregard for life, regardless of whether it is human or not. This will be my last reply to Dx3 on this topic.

Edit - for the sake of this thread I will delete my post. However, I was curious as to why my post infuriated you when people were talking about killing, shooting, poisoning cats - all I said was I would set my dog on them.

I would be more than willing to continue this debate via PM if you choose.

Have a nice day :-)

Jonny

GOLD.

And yes, enough with the cat argument. Bottom line--As a pet owner, you are responsible for the damage it does to other people's property. No matter the species.

Also, the owner of our house (we're renting a 3 year old house) was stupid enough to build a CARPORT instead of a garage, so I have no protection. I supposed I could get a car cover, though...
