Default TINT in Virginia

Hi all. I have an all black SC300 '97
what kind of tint should i get? i believe the law in Virginia is

Front doors......................50%

Rear doors.......................35%

Back window....................28%

I'm thinkin maybe 20%? Has anyone been pulled over cuz of it? Also, should I get all black or those mirror tints. ALL advice is welcome. Thanks.

I have had 30% tint on my accord (all around for over a yr.) and haven't had any problems with it .. although it is illigal in cali to have all but the lightest tint on the fronts, but only if your caught .. but I dont care about a little fix-it chicken ticket. there easy to get written off especially if you have friends who are cops
IMO I aslo think it looks weird if you have 50%(front) and then it gets darker tint on the rear windows but thats just me
the lex also has 45%all around.

good luck.

I believe the CA law is 85% on the front-sides. If you have both mirrors (driver's outside and passenger's outside) you are not required to have a rear window -- meaning all the windows behind the driver can be pitch-black. If you do not have the passenger's outside mirror, your rears can be 15%. You can tint the top 6" of the windshield anything you choose.

I plan to have a strip on my windshield, 50% on the driver's and passenger's side, and 15% on all the 3 in the rear.

It is a fix-it (knock on wood) in CA. And depending on the jurisdiction, it can be $10 if it's been signed-off ($30 not signed-off) in smaller counties OR I've read that it's a new law that it is a $276 fine and the DMV/courts can choose whether or not to put it on your driving record.

Usually fix-it's (as far as I've seen) are written by "rookie" cops or parking enforcement cops. And they're usually a secondary offense, i.e., if you get pulled over for speeding, they tack on the tinted windows thing.

30% is about as dark as you'll wanna go. My father is a state trooper in northern VA, and he writes people for 20% all the time. Well you won't get pulled by the state for just tint, but if you're doing something else stupid, you're gonna get a ticket for the tint too. And the local cops....bah....they use tint as a reason to pull you over to check for other stuff.

I always had 30% with 18% mirror, and no problems.
