Default Wider opening doors????? Can the hinges be modified?

I am hopefully going to be getting an SC soon. I have a couple problems. First of all, I am paralyzed and the doors don't open very wide for ease of entry. Has anyone messed with the hinges to make the doors open wider? Secon thing is the seat doesn't recline all the way. I assume that is as simple as drilling out a stopping pin in the seat reclining bracket?
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Yeah, those hinges are burly! They look like they belong on a tank. I'm suprised they wear out. I will have to try and modify the driver side one though or else it is too hard to get my wheelchair in and out.

Nice cars the SC's are but the hinges are ridiculous. Some ingenuity will be needed to get it to open more.

Yeah the door goes so far forward in front of the hinge. Could do Lambo doors, but that is definitely not my style!

i wouldn't mess with the hinge, It is designed to open wider without taking as much room as a regular hinge, notice when you open the door how it moves forward and outward, that is not just by luck, it is design.

Well, without doing some hinge modification I can't get my wheelchair in the car easily. So if I didn't get it to work I'll probably just get another bmw again. I really want to try an SC though.

Maybe this is a little redundant relative to things you may have already considered, but is there possibly another type of wheelchair that may fold smaller or squeeze into smaller places to "accommodate" an SC400?

There's got to be some way to make it work if you really want a specific car...

honestly, the amount of work and $$$ that will go into something like this may not be worth the actual SC itself, but lambo doors could work besides the whole ricer look

Yeah, I can make it work the way it is now, but I'm being lazy.

The door is designed with a fade away design and opens unlike any other door as it is already since it moves away from the car rather than simply pivoting. Any movement more than it already does would put it in the fender so it's at it's limit. You can remove the bolt that secures the tensioner and may be able to gain a little more movement. I have a thread on doing it, so search my user name and door hinge.

This thought had crossed my mind as well. It would be an interesting idea and would definitely eliminate the issue.
