maybe you could leave the glass and remove all the motors and such.
that would reduce some weight, or is it actually the glass itself.
someone should remove everything but the glass and make it permanent in there. you could even replace the glass with a lighter glass possibly, then you wouldnt have to worry about changing the inside lining and welding metal to your roof.
at least you could still look out of it that way
i dont know how you're not gettin teh hawtees w/ the moonrooff
did you try hollerin at em... holla holla holllla hoolllllllaaaaa

70-80 lbs seems excessively heavy...I have removed the Sunroof several times now, and that glass roof is no where near that in weight. I would say maybe 20 lbs...Maybe...I can lift and hold it on my fingertips with one hand. While I did not remove the rest of the sunroof assembly, there isn't much more to it...I have a hard time believing the motor and the rest of the assembly weigh that much...
Unless you are turning your car into a pure race car, I think the little savings you would receive by removing the glass sunroof are not worth the effort...There are other ways to remove weight from the car...A CF hood, trunk, rear spoiler, CF doors, and remove much of the interior, and you will lose massive weight, and lose the luxury ride (if removing the interior). The SC door panels are quite heavy. Also, remove the seats and get non-electric seats, another good amount of weight savings...I would not put on CF doors for street use, my opinion though. The CF hood and trunk, nice...
It is easy to remove the headliner once the rest of the interior is out it uses velcro like fasteners to hold it in place.

I really wish I had a hardtop. I'm such a big fan of less weight on the car but I also told myself I was going to get the car as light as possible without making it feel like anything less than a Lexus (i.e. no gutted interior, racing seats, etc) so I can't really justify to myself taking out the sunroof.
I'm definitely interested to see more about it though.

I wish mine was a hardtop. I'm not a big fan of sunroofs/moonroofs/whatever you call them.
These cars aren't even that heavy. The Supra is over 100 lbs heavier than my car, and I dont really have any weight reduction done.
I weighed my car in at 3400 lbs. My friend's TT supra was a hair over 3500 lbs. Gotta love recycling center scales

The sunroof assemble was made from fiberglass....... The heaviest part of the assembly is probably the glass. Why get rid of the sunroof when there are way heavier parts on the car like the hood and doors .You want to lighten up the car get a carbon fiber hood and a trunk or a lightweght battery .The sc battery itself weighs more than the complete sunroof assembly. The only pro will be more headroom , if you can the correct headliner to go with the sunroof delete mod that is
