I was assuming the sunroof assembly was made out of steel, because my sons 95 Volvo 850 was. I would still love to know the exact weight of the assembly. If I still have the car this summer, I will be able to answer my own question.

Dropping weight off of the top of the car allows for a lower center of gravity, provides a better improvement in handling than say putting a carbon fiber hood on.

Amen on the battery though. Instead of getting one of those expensive Odyssey batteries, I'm just going to get one from O'Reillys for something like a Seadoo. My friend has an O'Reillys one in his Camaro and we compared it to an Odyssey and they had all of the same ratings, but for $70 instead of $200+

Still not worth losing the sunroof imo. Now if this mod did make a drastic improvement (which i doubt very much) then yea, but i highly doubt this will make you enter or exit a corner faster than you normally will . If you want a lower center of gravity there are always coilovers or lowering springs and stabalizer bars that does the job 10 times better than removing the sunroof.

Im interested in the weight savings for 0-60 times, and I think it would be a good investment in uniqueness.

So, I finally took the time to call my upholestery guy today. I was the least worried about the headliner. My guy told me that he couldnt fab. a headliner to relplace the o.e. one with the sunroof. He suggested I check the salvage yards for a hardtop headliner. I have already checked the Lexus dealer about a new hardtop headliner at $550,00. My guy also said that after the sunroof removal I might have to add roof bracing because the sunroof was being used as a stressed member. Time for me to look at other options for weight loss.

Not to say I told you so, but the amount of weight you would lose is nominal from this attempt. And as you now see, it is not a positive idea...Certainly not worth the potential pitfalls and costs to lose a few pounds. Get rid of your seats, put in non-electric light weight ones, lose your stock hood and trunk and spoiler, and add the Seibon CF ones. That ought to cut cut a few hundred pounds. Lose the spare tire. Don't add extra Stereo gear. You ought to be able to cut 300 lbs by doing these things. Beyond that, you will start to loose the luxury ride of the car. You could have control arms custom fabbed out of billet aluminum, and many other expensive things...I suggest you switch cars if you want to get much lower in weight...Ths SC is just a heavy car. No way around it easily, or cheaply.

What ever you do, good luck.

Thats another thing I need to do, check and see where the closest seibon dealer near Lou. Ky. is. Also hood pins or not.

actually its a sunroof. A moonroof only opens upward, and you cant put it back to let the "sun" in...sunroof either does that or opens backward...
