Default how much rwhp would you say that...

How much rwhp would a tune-up (& new spark plugs) and clean air filter get me? I haven't had a tuneup since i bought the car (still same old spark plugs) and the air filter is rather dirty.

BTW, I held off on the air filter because I was hoping for an air intake to be manufactured... now I'm waiting to finish the intake

10 rwhp. 5mpg. Smooth idle and peace of mind. The latter is the best of all.

Don't for get the dist. caps and dist. rotors... DirectQL rwhp was 147.0 in his SC3 on his first dyno run... After he got a tune up he got 177 rwhp a big improvement...

So, I guess any where between 10 - 20 hp is safe to assume... Don't forget the fuel filter and clean injectors...

You know all those "air intake" HP gain numbers you guys see...anyone ever wonder if they dyno the "before with stock intake" cars with CLEAN filters (not even a tune up)...

I think it's safe to assume that a tuneup should give your car as much power as your car had when it was new. It's just a tuneup. My car had a major problem running very lean; it wasn't burning enough fuel. I did spark plugs, wires, distributor rotor and cap, fuel filter, and finally did a motorvac to clean the fuel system. My fuel economy increased and I got the power back.

When I dynoed stock I did have the cone filter. I doubt it gives me more power.

You are right Manaray, NO ONE post tune up before the jump onto a dyno(if so they are not mentioning it)... That's what I've been saying all along that BEFORE we go for more hp the car NEEDS to be in good running condition... plugs, wires, filters(air and fuel), injectors cleaned, transmission serviced... etc... I willing to bet theat most of the guys/company's are not spending the necessary money and time on tuning up the cars before they are tested...

On feb 10th i'll post Dyno results from
-No tuneup, old spark plugs, old air filter, etc
-tune up and new stock air filter (everything Ikon mentioned)
-tune up and new air intake

I don't expect oil to have any difference in hp, it gets changed every 3k with Mobil 1. The results should be interesting.
