97 SC300 MT or 02 SC430 ???

I owned my SC400 for 4 years, and now I've had my 430 for a year and a half. I always loved the 400, but GOTDAMN do i love my 430. Interior is just sick, hands down, one of the best interiors I've ever been in. Spend two days driving that car around and I guarantee you'll fall in love. I have the ecru/maple interior. Drive quality doesn't seem too different to me, 430 is still a pretty heavy car, handling is good in both (I had 18's), as well as acceleration. I had nakamichi in my 400, and mark levinson in the 430, holy **** the ML is off the hook man! I had 2 10's solo barics in my 400 and I don't miss them at all. The ML is realllllllly good, especially like how it sounds completely different based on whether the top is up or down. Body style is great on both cars, but the 430 definitely has some nice lines around the car.
I might still have my 400 if I didn't crash it into a million pieces. But if I had to choose right now, no way I could go back to the 400.

just had a great idea
(i have no idea why i didn't think of this first)....
...keep my 300... and sell the wife's 06 Civic EX coupe instead
i just know down the road i'd regret selling my 300... might be a year, might be 5 years, but eventually i'd want to drive that car again...
and i think we can all agree that we'd rather drive a 02-03 SC430 as opposed to a 06-07 Honda Civic

Didn't idle or accelerate as smoothly, didn't feel or sound as sturdy when I closed the door, and I couldn't tell the front end from the back! Just kidding Very nice car, but I just didn't get what I expected.

I like the 430's and was planning on buying one after I sold my rental in Colorado Springs, but it looks too much like a chick car, can't do it. I feel like a flower in that car, not a real man's car (IMO). No disrespect to you guys that have one, to each his own. Maybe I will buy one for my future wife and drive it at night or on long country roads.
Great car though

You are comparing two entirely different vehicles.
The 5MT is a sleek, sexy luxury ethusiast's car with loads of untapped potential beyond just "minor cosmetic mods"
The 430 is a country club car: pricey, classy, eccentric, automatic trans, etc.
As an enthusiast, I would personally favor the 5MT. Even if the 300 was an automatic, I would favor it because I find the 430 rather unattractive...but that is just my opinion.
