Considering purchasing a SC300
Hello guys, Ive done a bit of searching on this forum for some of the questions I have. Im currently looking at either a 95-96 240sx or a 93-95 SC300. This isnt really a versus thread but I had a few questions about the SC that I wasn't about to find
- Would insurance be significantly more on a sc300 than a 240sx? I asked my brother to call them up for me but he keeps procrastinating (I'm going under his)
- Parts and Maintenance...would these things be noticeably more expensive than with a 240sx?
- Racing...Autocross/Road racing I know sc's are heavy but so are supras would they perform the same? Im told they have the same suspension as the supras so I would think so..
thanks

i came from a 240sx, tons of aftermarket support, very realible car, all the suspension parts you can think of is already made for the 240sx, i had them all besides roll center adjustable LCA, unbelievabe track car, very easy caster, camber toe adjustments on the 240 but lack of space, back seats are made for small childens and bearly fit my head in the car, and very annoying with helment on. if i never wrecked my 240 i would still drive it today, time to try something new.

240s are very easy and cheap to maintain, I have owned way too many of them though the years. Its really hard to compare the two, if you are on a budget and not a DIY person, I don't believe a SC is the car for you. Insurance on my SC is roughly about 3 times as much on my 98 240sx. The SC is a better built car but also carriers a higher price tag in most cases. The SC get more looks then a stock 240 and drives a heck of alot better for a every day driver. I have also had a blast tracking a few 240s that I have had, its hard to say because I'm a little bias towards 240s.

i owned both and a 240 is a much better track car like everyone else said. i use the sc for DD and occasional drift days. the sc is a boat but still very fun to drive. definitely get more looks in an sc vs. 240 if both are stock. as far as parts the cost is about the same...at least for me. insurance-wise the sc is actually the same price for me as the 240.
but i just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance....but canceling my car insurance on the 240.....for the winter.
gas mileage is a little bit better on the 240. i get about 23 in the sc and about 25 in the 240.....granny driving around town that is. when it comes time to run them it more of a question of how many gallons per mile rather then miles per gallon.

my insurance went up about 15 bucks a month switching from my 93 hatch to my 95 sc. (comprehensive on both)
both are great cars. parts and maintenance are about the same to keep up, except you should plan to have to fix interior and random lighting stuff on the Lexus which Nissan's don't have (cluster, seat rail stuck, tilt steering, etc..etc..).
but none of these things are really that big a deal unless you cant operate a philips screw driver and a pair of pliers.
i switched because i wanted something with a nicer interior. classic styling of a coupe with all the luxury and power to get sideways if you want.
but if you dont care about how nice the car is the 240sx is more nimble.
good luck

I added an SC400 as a fourth car to my policy (not the daily driver) and it went up only $210/6 months (just Liability 100/300K). I like 21st.com, they are WAY cheaper than Geico.
