i do it JDM style on the driver side.

i had a cop pull me over for tints and i talked him into just giving me a warning. so before he left he walked around the car to see if i have anything else wrong. he looked from passenger side and his face lip up when he didnt see it. then he walked a little more and saw it. he was SO disappointed. i was happy.

Not to be picky, but I believe this "style" originated from drifters unwilling to block their FMIC with a plate. Not all cars in the Japanese Domestic Market have license plates off center.
