I just wanna say thanks to anyone who listed stock parts that should be checked and replaced often. I am sitting her with a pen and paper and since I dropped my sc400 off at the shop today I will take this list over and have them look it over so I can fix these basic, but important things myself.

This is EXACTLY what I've been working on with my car, except for a few goodies here and there (new stereo and magnaflows )
Makes me happy when I look back to see all the hard work I've put into this car getting it to where it is now, and then looking at the pics of where it came from. There's nothign better than the satisfaction of knowing you did it all yourself (except the new engine....thats still a little more than my craftsman tool set can handle)

Bought the porter equipment and all the polishes and it REALLY makes a black car shine when you do it right.
I've always wanted to go turbo and have a fast car, but I also knew that if the car wasn't in good shape outside and inside its not worth spending the money to make it fast, then you just have a fast, crappy looking old lexus!! And thats no good

My '95 SC400 has gotten the royal treatment over the past year:
New interior courtesy of a Group Buy from this site. 20 hours labor to install myself.
New OEM (yes, STOCK OEM) chrome wheels
New Supra TT LCA's up front, with
Vlamos bushes for the UCA's,
New Rear back LCA's, stock.
Timing belt
Water pump
tensioner pulley
A/C compressor
Tires
New front headlamps (Thanks, Carson Toyota!)
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but still to come is Power steering pump, alternator, and, God forbid, paint (next year or two).
then, AND ONLY THEN will I think about performance exhaust, BFI, or other 'fun' mods.
This car is what it is: A luxury sport coupe. And a damn good one, even 11 years later.

I want a sweet looking ride that is plush, posh with the pananche of a $60K car... That drives, looks, feels, and rides like a SC... Focus on fixing a problem with your car and bringing it back to glory... Then you can make it perform better...
The monies we spend on mods/rims can get that older Lexus in mint condition before we know it... If you have a new Lexus keep it that way...

Such a great thread. Ive had my sc300 for a month and have driven it half way across the country once. So far, I have a new ps pump and a new battery. Bushings will be done in the summer when Im back in TX. I was hoping to get rid of the god awful rims that the previous owner had and replace them with more stock-ish rims.

Such a great thread. I was thinking all about POWER as i did with my Supra. But after reading this and thinking. I have a true sports car. I don't need another one. 3 days of driving my Supra and i have to fill it up agian. 6.94a gal isn't cheap. My car has about 205miles. it was bought used in 96 with 100k (poor girl). I just had a major service done. Timing belt, Tensioner, New pulleys...pullies ?, Timing covers, Valve adjustment(Sucks because they are the SHIM type.), Transmission flush ( i used motul ATF), New propeller shaft dampeners, Sill need alot of parts like LCA, Driver side door pannel, window regulator, radio, antenna mast, springs and dampeners NOT SHOCKS, and a repaint. SO all in all not to bad. I plan on doing the labor my self. She's getting alot more mileage. After i change all of the neccessary (ie the suspension parts). I plan on taking her to Willow Springs race track and see what times she will get with all of these parts replaced by aftermarket Race Inspired parts. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT,AND IF IT IS BROKE BY AFTERMARKET!

Funny thing is, I'm getting a 1jz and manual swap, and new interior. Cosmetic things don't bother me, as I know I bought the car for 400 bucks, and I'll try and return it to stock as best I can.
