Default What is the best way to tow an SC

I need help in towing a non running SC400 30 miles with a pick up truck.

We are going rent one of those uhaul tow dolly's

I heard you are not supposed to tow the car with the drive axle attached? Is this true? Burn out the tranny?

How would I remove the drive axle? What would be the proper steps to follow in towing this the 30 miles safe?

They are not being helpful unfortunately. They swear the truck cant pull this car, although on the truck's forums, people pull cars all day long with it... longer than 30 miles at a time too.

Sonoma 4.3L Vortech Heads. They have torque

Will the full trailer vs the dolly put more load on the truck or no?

The load is about the same with a full trailer. I towed my friends MKIV with a 5.3 Chevy 1500..Only real differance is that is easier on the car and safer IMO

30 freakin miles?

Call a flat bed tow truck and have it done safely. It will save you from trailer rental, gas, wear/tear on the 4.3L and be much safer. The $50 savings may not be worth it to do it yourself.

I towed my car about 400 + miles with a dolly with a single cab v6 chevy pickup .You will have to disconnect the driveshaft if you want the rear wheels on the road .

The rule about disconnecting the driveshaft is only for long highway pulls or higher speed runs. 30 mile pulls around the valley is just a hook and go. Use back roads, maintain 40 mph or less.

You can dolly the car with no issues, but I'd use a rollback. I just had my Mercedes towed twice in 2 days. Once to the house to wait out thanksgiving, and once to the dealer for diagnosis. both trips were exactly 27 miles. Having the peace of mind of knowing the drive was fully insured and safe was worth the $150 to me.

I just rented the full flatbed tow dolly from U-Haul for $40. Towed it about 125 miles in my Burb - no probs

Definitely agreeing with the flatbed. SC is already pretty low to the ground even at stock height.

We've gotten some outrageous quotes for a flatbed. We rather just tow it with a truck.

I just wanted some input on how to go about that.

Problem you will run into with U-Haul is the SC weighs too much to tow with the truck you are using. Tell them you are towing a Geo metro or have a buddy show up with a bigger truck. I also believe they require a class 5 hitch to tow anything they have. Also they don't like you to travel a long distance with the tow dolly because if you hit a bump they claim it had a good chance flipping over while empty.
