New Idea: Automatic shift boot
I was at a local bone yard yesterday and came across a 2003 Impala with a black leather/vinyl shift boot that went around the automatic shifter. Has anyone attempted to do so with an SC? I was at a fabric store in South Bend with my fiance and was looking at the vinyl and leather rolls they carried, and they had a black that would compliment the shift bezel nicely.

Shift Boot
I went to fabric store, brought worn shift boot so clerk could tell me amount of material to purchase. Found vinyl resembling the old leather. Bought leather stitching needle, nylon thread and used old booth as model to make new one. Took about an hour since Id never stitched before. Looks good except for uneven and amateur look of my stitching. Last thing you do is buy one of those self sticking velcro pads to replace the one inside the boot and glue it to the inside of your newly made boot. Hope this helps.

That's a good idea. In high school my buddy had an 86 Fiero that he and I completely restored and customized. We reupholstered the seats and made a custom shift boot along with some other things. I'm confident I could do the shift boot, yet I just want to make sure it fits...ya know? I don't want it to look half-assed and out of place. OEM look will be nice. I'm only doing this because I broke the little slider cover that covers the screws for the shift **** and don't feel like finding a new one. The boot idea came into my mind the other day and I liked the way it looked on that Impala...so here goes!
When I get this together over the next few weeks I'll post up the progress. I have to give my class final today and then I have about three and a half weeks off of work until I start the next semester.

It is a FAR cry from the dildomatic. I really would not take a lot of skill to make it look professional. You would just have to keep an eye for detail.

574--You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly the concept I was thinking of.
I've seen kids with auto Civics and what not that do that to make an auto look like a stick and it drives me up a wall. I just want a decorative boot for aesthetics, not to fool people that look in your car window.
