carbon fiber dash kit
#18
What's wrong with a wood trim kit? My question is where can I get replacement burl wood dash kit like the new GS's have. My friend's GS has a high gloss burl wood trim that looks leagues better than mine/ours. My wood trim is losing it's luster.
When you look at the Emerald SC pictures, you can tell it's a carbon fiber sticker. Look at the change bucket/cigarette lighter compartment cover. You can see the layer of "carbon fiber" pasted over the oem plastic cover.

I think that they are talking about the real Carbon fiber pieces that replaced the wood in the car. ...I think.
The 'sticker' type is available everywhere.
When those photos were taken we had got that 'sticker' dash kit as a product sample to shoot pix for the company. I have a good relationship with that dash 'sticker' company but it was pulled after the real carbon fiber pieces went in to replace everything.
BTW..The ashtry door was never covered with the kit...it was stock in all of those photos.
Also, there is a place that had sent out a press release a while back.
They were making(or about to make) the 2nd generation SC wood kits that looked like the 3rd. generations. I personaly dont like the new SC's or the wood thats in em, so I didnt bother getting more info. But if thats what you're after I'll try to find the company info when I get a chance.

or cold casting?
You could get any fab shop to quote you on the work, it's just a matter of $$$
What may be interesting is cold casting with urethane resin and metallic powder mixed in. You could easily make a mold of the shifter area, the stereo surround and the other trim pieces.
I'll do some checking, maybe if time permits cast a part and post pics.

I believe computerwiz has the legend5 dash kit on his manual sc300. It's on his website: www.lexustuner.com

I used to be involved in the injection moulding industry, it will not be cost effective for you to produce the mould that would be needed, unless you try something like Mycrobyte's suggestion. Wiz's kit is the Legend5, but they only make a synthetic alum for our cars, it's not T6 if that's what you thought, but they do make a very nice real carbon kit. Also, the wood in our cars is Bird's Eye Maple, very nice and classy, it's not supposed to be very glossy, I have no idea why someone would want to replace that, just combine some carbon with some Maple, they're both fiber anyway, hehe.

just the plastic parts...
I am going to attempt the shift area and the bezel around the stereo. Agree with double L (LexLuthor) , why mess with the oem wood, it is nice. Of course, unless some bonehead used the wrong cleaning chemicals and messed up the wood finish. Need to lightly sand and have refinished anway....
