Default I found a gash in driver side under body.

I was working on my car last night just pulling out the carpet to run some speaker cable, I pulled the carpet off and it was able to see the garage floor. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? I was thinking of cutting a rectangle of some 18 gauge steel that I have and welding it back together, or trying to use a small mallet to straighten it out and weld it then. Thank you guys. I will take a picture after work.

whoa! thats crazy! I think welding a steel piece over it is your best bet if you have all the tools.

Lol... how do yo not know you have a friggin GASH in your floor board?!?! I can only imagine how loud it gets driving at higher speeds. Seeing as bondo will be a ghetto rig job... only way to fix it correctly is by properly straightening whats left of the floor board/ when the gash has been brought down to a minimal cut and weld appropriate size piece of sheet metal and make sure to spray paint the new metal with non-corrosive paint.

I honestly haven't driven the car for a mile. I just picked it up. I have kept it in the garage for about 2 weeks working on it when I have time. I towed the car home so I want to say that might have when it happened, because there isn't any rust on it.

Well I took the carpet off completely and found out that, not only did it happen on the driver side but on the passenger side too. The gash on the driver side is about 14-16 inches long and the other is about 10 inches long.

Was your car attacked by something? lol.

Take it to a shop and have them patch it up.

2 and 1/2 hours I was able to get it where the biggest gap was about 2mm and the rest was together. Tomorrow I will clean it completely and prepare it for welding.
