I tried weighing the frame separately from the cushioning. The frame weighs about 30 lbs. I say at least half of the frame's weight is due to the mounting brackets. That's probably why most racing seats are sold without the brackets; so they can advertise them for much less weight then they actually are. Even if I did go with the Corbeau Sport Seat, its net weight with the mounting brackets would probably comparable to this.

I was also surprised how much the cushioning weighs (about 10 lbs). I don't know how these JDM cloth ones compare to our leather ones. These cloth ones do feel firmer, so maybe they weigh more.

I'd conclude that if you really wanted to cut the weight, you need to buy fixed racing seats that have no recliners or adjustablity to them. Of course, that's just about sacraficing all luxury or convenience. Unless its a sole track car, I wouldn't do it.

Brendon, was it easy to dismantle the sc seat ? Looking forward to when you weigh the stock sc seats. I assume the jdm seats are all manual ?

At first, i had trouble figuring out where to begin. Its best to start with the backrest. You first got to remove the plastic backing. There are 2 screws at the bottom. After you unscrew them, you just slide it out. From there, I used wire cutters to cut all the hog rings. Once all the rings are cut, its pretty easy to slide the entire cushion w/ cover off. Removing the covers from the cushions is much harder. The seat cushion is a bit more annoying. There are a bunch of screws and bolts you got to remove. For this, you'll need a torque rench.

In all, it took me about an hour to strip the seat to what you see in the pic, and that was with no fore knowledge of what I was doing.
