A mechanic told me to get rid of my car.
Alright, so I've been having some electrical issues. Namely, the car has shorted itself out twice, the first time a puff of smoke from the trunk, second time a puff of smoke from the trunk...so dug deep in the trunk and found a ground wire running to...doesn't really matter...anyways...I take it in to see if there are any other wires in the guts of my SC that could harm it. While I was checking my gauge wires (Oil psi, batt, and water temp), I must have knocked something off because now my heat won't work, plus there was some oil sprayed on the wires behind my center console that I found.
So, the mechanic said "man, there is too much to even look at under there, in my opinion I would just get rid of the car." !!!!! I wanted to stab him in the face with a soldering iron!

I've been told its the best and cheapest place by the Midas guys, for anywhere better than that Ill have to drive 45 minutes for a second opinion. I would like to try and fix it but my electrical prowess isn't as good as it needs to be. I'm just scared something will short my ECU or my tuned SAFC or something crazy like that. The way I drive now its ok, no bad smells or sounds but I can just tell something is wrong ya know.
Been trying to get this fan shroud on for the past week but its still sitting in the back of my car, work two jobs and school = murder on a relationship. Plus the radiator hose is stuck with glue or some nonsense.

Midas is notorious. My mom got ripped off one time at a local Midas. Around $500 for brakes (front brakes only). Take it somewhere else and get an inspection (free, if possible), or, better yet, a Lexus or Toyota shop that knows a lot about the car so they can find out exactly what's wrong with it and fix it.

Get a new mechanic.
However, don't be looking for cheap and then complaining about someone telling you its not worth fixing. Be ready to PAY for diagnostic work. You wouldn't believe how long we spend on diag with client's cars on small issues or wiring only to have them say, "but it was just a xxx that was the problem, how could it cost that much?"

Yeah, thats all I took it in for was just to get a diag, and he said he couldn't do anything for me so a new mech it is. I wish I could have the mechanics we had in Iraq, those guys were serious. Also, the mechanic shop was just a personal owned place and it didn't seem very import friendly.
Theres a shop and a track in Jacksonville, NC about 45 minutes north of me, I'm headed up there after I take it to Charleston to DIY some fuse bridges and a capacitor for the sound.
Thanks everyone, I'll be more in depth with them next time, wish I could fix it myself though.

i have been a mechanic for about 9yrs, and i have to say i hate mechanics..
i can accomplish more by getting drunk and working on my car, than a sober mechanic employed at most big companies can...and not get fu*%$# on the price.
i say take the extra drive and get a good second opinion...
