Exclamation Advice on purchasing 1993 SC300 Manual

Hi there, it's been awhile since I've posted on here. I totalled my 95 SC300 in 05 and replaced it with a 90 Honda Accord with 70K I got for 2K. Now I'm itchin' to replace that with a manual SC for some good times.

Local seller has a 1993 SC300 5 speed black/gray with 117K he's selling for $7495. It looks like it's in good condition, although he doesn't know if the timing belt/water pump has been changed. It's orginally a Texas car he brought into California. Carfax shows everything clean. He "orange red" out the taillights and in the pics it looks pretty good. It comes with the chrome stock rims, not the one in the pics below. Here is a excerpt from his email and some pics:

It is factory interior on 1992-1994 Sc300 they had tan and the optional more rare grey it had a fancier name but it is light grey and Dark Grey. Go on
Clublexus.com some people have some pictures posted of it.

Ca Title in hand.

The car has factory paint the paint is glossy and is super clean for
being a 15+ year old car but I would still rate it an honest 7.5 because
they are a few chips here and there and a couple of very small dings
by the wheel well. I still think the car looks great. Except for the
wear on the drivers seat I would rate the interior like a 9 to 9.5 it is
awesome!

Is this a good deal? I was also considering getting the 98+ SC400 with the 300 hp V8 and 5 speed automatic.

Also, if I do get this vehicle I'm assuming the 97+ taillights fit on here for the updated look? I like the look of the 97+ front bumper air duct, but the older fog lights look better. I wonder if I could cut out that piece myself with precision Dremel tooling? Did anything change pre/post 97 rear bumper?

Thanks for your help in advance. This site has always been kind to me!

Sincerely,

Danny Wu

Hi there thanks for the reply. I can't find the 92 for sale in question in the classifieds section. Where is it?

Thanks!

Danny,

Sounds like a nice car - but as was stated already, that is way too much for a 93...

i paid 5000 for mine and i think i was ripped off even though it was in pretty decent shape.

7500 is insane. 5spd is not worth THAT kind of a premium. for that price you can buy an auto and convert.

my boss is selling his 98 sc400 platinum silver on black interior with 70k on it. he wants 11k obo. id rather do that. even though its auto its a newer, much nicer car.

I have a little experience here ...

I bought a 1993 SC400 in February and paid a little over $8K for it because of it's condition AND because it had 47,000 miles on it. Your car has about 3 times that much. Assuming the interior is in as good condition I wouldn't pay much more than $6K for it even though it is a manual tranny.

Times are tough for sellers these days ... especially for cars that use premium and get less than 20 MPG (my opinion).

Talk him down if you really want it.

Good luck ...

i assume you are referring to the sc3 that is for sale in the lexus vehicle classifieds section. That car looks like it is in very good condition.

Just remember that the selling price is only as good as the demand at that price.

At that price i would not buy that car. However someone else might think that it is well worth it. if you have the money and really really want that car, go for it. Given that black 5spds are pretty rare. If a 5spd isnt really that big of a deal for you, im sure you will be able to find pretty good deals in other vehicles.

i paid 5000 for mine (5SPD). Guy was originally commanding 7500 for it. I personally wouldn't pay more than 6000 for one, even in good condition.

Depend where you located, i got mine 93 5spd for 7k with minor body damage. it just very hard to find the right car at the right price since the 5spd is so demanding now. If you not hurry then wait patiently and you will find the right one at the right price.

Do it, you're paying 7-8k because you're in cali and the cars are honestly way more in demand there for their sleeper potential (NA-T) and the simple bolt on 5speed swap 1jz from japan gives you all the low down torque you could want for a daily.

I'll let you guys know how my 1jz vvti single turbo works out, the front clip is being shipped, well, at least my space on the container ship is paid for and i haven't put any money down.

dont listen to these guys, you pay for what you get, you buy a 5000$ car, unless you are very lucky, you will need new interior, new LCD for the ac control, flickering needles, new timing belt and new other stuff, i truly believe you get what you paid for, UNLESS you luck out. Its also funny how the guy says a 93 is worth 4500$ PERIOD when he bought 1 for 5000, why doesnt he just wait for a 3500 or 4000 one to come along?
