I got a black on black 95 SC400 for less then the price of an average 19" tires/wheels. However, it had over 220k miles but still very strong. Lowball or not CL members are educated buyers.

To bad you dont live in Houston. Found a black 96 with 120k for $4900 on craigslist. I would link it but think im not allowed to. I think the price for the one your looking at is a bit high. I got a 93 sc300 with 122k with bad control arm bushings and sending unit for 3400. Interior is perfect not even shiney like old Lexus leather gets. The outside had no dings only a few minor scratches that buffed right out. Owned by a old couple that garage kept and had all the service records from the Lexus dealership

thats what i've heard, but i have not confirmed this.
i guess if you say yours does then i would say its probably not true, unless it was one of those stupid options that just became standard later on.

I know it wasnt on most toyota's until like 95 or 96.

This doesnt help you too much but I just saw over the weekend a 1992 SC300 5spd with 189k miles they want $4,995 in PA. I saw the car and its in decent shape but has some paint issues and leather is a bit rough but not bad for the mileage. The @#$% salesperson wouldnt open the car said "it was sold" but guess showing up in a Cavalier in PA doesnt open many doors...literally...for you IDIOTS!

Good Luck!

I found a 1995 sc400 with 140k miles for 4700. The owner says that the ac has a slow leak (needs to be recharged every 4 months or so) and he has no idea if the timing belt or WP has been changed...He says its in perfect condition with no oil leaks. He got it from an auto auction so it might be a repo. I'm guessing that it needs some AC work an a timing belt/wp job...

I might take a look at it. I'm just a little worried that this guy knows nothing about any maintenance done to the car.

Would this mean I need another compressor, or I just need to re-seal AC the system with new seals?

dont bother believing something has no oil leaks unless you get it checked out yourself. auto auction cars are sold cheap because they usually need small repairs. i bet you he bought the car for about 3 grand in an auction.

for 4700 i should think you can find an SC without having to have to spend hundreds of bucks finding, and then fixing the problem.

That's what I was thinking. It's not a bad deal, and the guy says the car is in perfect condition inside and out, but he doesn't know what was maintenance was done to it at all. I am trying to avoid an immediate timing belt/water pump/ AC repair. I wouldn't mind little problems, but those few things (timing belt and AC) can put big holes in my pocket. By the time I'm done I would be at over $6,000 and there are some at 6k with service records. Not to mention Summer is coming and it is going to be 100 degrees out here.

I'm pretty upset that all the good deals are out in So-Cal. Since I sold my last car, I don't have a ride out there. There is a blue 1996 sc400 with 122k miles for 4700 in the long beach area. Damn I'll keep looking.

Just found a blue 1995 for 6k obo with 104k miles. I'm gonna check that one out. Only downside is that it has chrome 20's. I'll see if I can get 5k with the stock rims if the owner still has them (don't really like chrome wheels).

just keep an eye out. also look for sc300's. with gas prices nowadays i think its a better option. you could always take the car to a local toyota dealership and they can do a quick checkup for you (might cost $$)

check the blue one out, sounds like it could possibly be really nice, you could always sell the wheels or just toss em.

Try and buy from a private party, as no dealer will know if the timing belt has been done usually, nor do they even really care cause someone will buy it.
I paid 6k for a 95 sc3 5spd with 130k with all the records including 60k, 90k, and 120k service and doesnt even make the slightest of a hiccup. and that was in the DMV area. There are a lot of SC's in florida, especially modded ones. cruise the car classifieds on CL here.

I thought that the sc300 and sc400s got pretty much the same gas mileage?
