I bought a Tercel for $700 back in December. It is the smartest thing I have ever done. The car needed a little work to get back to par (~$300 to this point), but I am getting 36-38mpg in mixed driving while the SC is in for surgery. Even when I have my SC back to full health, the Tercel will get driven 4-5 days per week during the warm months since I can't afford not to drive it: the gas is practically free.

I read an article on Yahoo that the highest gas prices are in Europe for almost $10/gallon!!! Most people there use public transportation or other means so it's not a problem. Unlike here where we drive our private vehicles almost everyday.

By the way, have any of you guys ever heard about using PURE ACETONE in the gas as a fuel additive. It's supposed to help it combust more efficiently. Someone claims that by doing this he was able to increase his mileage by an additional 10mpg just by adding 2 oz. of it per 10 gallons of gas. Does anyone have any experience with this and what could be the possible negative effects it could have on our cars?

Im going to get my motorcycle license this summer.

If gas prices get too rediculous, I am going to start off with a brand new $3500 250cc Kawasaki Ninja 250R. It gets 50-70 mpg!

I have used 6 ounces per tank full in th past. It does boost the mpg. I did not get any negative side effects from it. I forget how much the improvement was, but it obviously wasn't worth the hassle since I stopped doing it.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. If it got to a point where gas prices bothered me enough to do something, I would sell my car and buy a tercel. And to the people getting less than 20 mpg, I used to get 16-17mpg, but I changed my driving habits and I've been getting around 22mpg for almost a month now..... just something to think about.

yeah, i'm lookin to do the same, buy a car (or motorcycle) that gets at least 30-40 MPG and a car that does not need PREMIUM UNLEADED...that's killing me...premium is like 20+ cents more expensive per gallon than regular unleaded...Had another $55.xx fill-up on Friday. It used to be about $40-45...... I can usually go about two weeks between fill-ups.

Wow... so what are you suggesting? Everyone keep dumping your money into their gas guzzlers because it's cheaper than buying a more efficient car? Makes no sense at all.

After 4 years of filling up the SC you'll end up with a 4 year older SC that will continue to have problems that require money to keep running.

At least after 4 years of making payments (roughly the same as I spend on gas for the SC) I'll end up with a newer more reliable car...

The real question is will you be modding the fit too?

Congrats on getting the new car, at least you're in a position to get a more fuel efficient car that is that nice.

More power to you pal, it's a free country, do whatever you want! One less SC on the road is just fine with me! Oh and by the way that new car still needs gas, higher insurance premiums and registration. The true cost of ownership on your Fit is about $34,000 for 5 years of ownership! lol

On the good side you are boosting the economy, so I hope more people think like you and buy some more new economobiles! Good job!!!

I was actually was able to keep my rate the same and insure both my SC and Fit full coverage.

Keep it coming with your backwards thinking.

Oh yeah I'm not your Pal...
