Default Rear view mirror wires?

Unfortanatly my 1996 SC400 doesn't have an owners manual.

There is a wire going to the rear view mirror, and a green light on it. What exactly does it do?

What ever it does, is it really useful?

Maybe it's for the dim/autodim feature.

it should be the auto dimming for both your rearview mirror and sideview mirrors. I know the 97+ came with dimming sideview mirrors cause im trying to change one out now. But i also think the 96 came with them also.
