HID xenon bulbs?? any good??
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...128416&r=0&t=0
I keep seeing these on e-bay and I am really tiard of my yellow headlights. And there only $15 i have seen bulbs go for $50 ( www.lexussc400.com ) But what keeps makeing me not bid is the fact that they are the high wattage bulbs (80 watts). And i have heard that high wattage bulbs will burn the inside of our headlamps. Is 80W is standard wattage for our headlights, or will these burn up my lenses. Thanks for the help.

A lot of what you see on E-bay are cheap imitations. (Beware!)
Check out Orsam Sylvania 'Silver Star' series.
www.sylvania.com They are rated
for 70 watt max. with a color temp. of 4000 Kelvin
and have a fiberglass housing base. They run about $30 ea.
PIAA is another good source to checkout.
I personally installed a set of Sylvania bulbs.
They illuminate a clean, bright white light (with a slight tint of blue).
This ia about the best you are going to get without
converting to a HID systems. Also keep in mind,
the SC low beam lights are projected beams.

I bought GE superBLue (9005, for high beam, around $20/pair from k-mart. ) and I'm happy with them. you need to modify a lil though. if interested, let me know.
but I still want real HID

HID "FAQ" ?
Many of us have mentioned the search power limitations of this message board (common to a lot of message boards actually) and so because of this, I ask:
- Do we have a source (w/ part numbers) of an HID kit appropriate for the SC?
- Do we have specific instructions for modifying/installing the HID "kit" so that it looks perfectly as good as a stock setup (2001 SC?)
I recall someone mentioning that their attempt resulted in a less than perfectly bright solution. I also remember someone suggesting a slight modification to fix this?
Point is, I want to be able to give such a FAQ to my mechanic/dealer so that he can install it for me. At the very least, knowing a tab has to be shaven here or there BEFORE the mechanic starts will result in less frustration for the mechanic and therefore better outcome for me/us.
Maybe someone even has a picture of the kit that we can markup with arrows pointing to the mods. (to make it idiot proof).
Thanks!

Any 9006 HID kit will work on the SC.

Well, the only 2001 SC ever sold was the SC300 and it never had HID as an available option. Installing the kit is extremely simple. Take out the old bulb, put in the new bulb, and wire in the positive and ground for the HID.
I wired both in in less than 10 minutes without any instructions and previous experience. It's THAT easy
I would make a FAQ about installing the HID but I don't have a digicam and the only hard part about the installation is to find a good place for the HID converters.

Is there any aftermarket or compatible oem HID ballast/bulb out there that will yield the exact same output of the Honda S2000 or Audi HID lights? IMO those are the absolute best HIDs and the only ones I'd ever pay big scrill for---not to mention the only types worthy of complimenting our cars. I'm weary of paying $450-1400 for an HID kit that I have no idea what it will ultimately look like. I've already seen two bad HID setups on friends' cars, one by Hella/Philips which cost $950. The S2000 HIDs as I'm sure you've all noticed will shift from white to purple to blue when the car pitches ever so slightly, and the Audis are similar, but blue and white. Thanks.

so, for a cheap alternative for a while, a set of GE 9005's with modifications with a dremel for the high beams. What set should I get for the low beam projectors, as well as the cornering lights? I presume the high beams are the bulb next to the projector housing, or is that the little round lights between the headlight assemblys?

This modification of 9005's came up before. Here is a link to the thread. The first post has a link to step by step instructions for modification of 9005 bulbs to fit in to the low beams. Basicly a quick hit with a dremel tool and use the old gasket.
