Default Any SC400s with 18x10?

I'm asking this here 'cuz I asked the same question in the wheels forum and no one answered, not one reply in 3 and a half days. Hopefully, this post doesn't get moved and someone here has a suggestion.

I'm thinking about putting an 18x10 wheel in the rear of my '92. Has anyone done that with their SC? If so, any rubbing? And what offset? If it's a viable option, what tire size would go good with that wheel size?

The car is not lowered, but there's a chance it might get a set of coilovers down the line.

Thanks if anyone can help.

I've asked the same question too...The response I got was basically that 10's may be too wide. With 10's you might have to remove the inner fender lining and do some other modifications...possibly...I dunno.

I'd also like to know the absolute answer to this. I stuck with 18x9 in the rear...selling my rims now...brand new. look in the classifieds section

howiedoit,

I hear ya'. It's amazing how much chatter goes on in this forum, but sometimes, when you've got a simple, straightforward question, you can't get ANY kind of answer, let alone a simple, straightforward answer.

I tried to put 19x10's on the rear of my SC400. I went to 3 different wheels stores here in Raleigh and all of them told me that the biggest I could fit on the rear is 18x9 and I would have to roll the fenders to even do fit those. I checked places on the internet and they all said the same thing. I can't decide if I believe them or not. I really wanted 19x10's but decided 19x9's would suffice and I would save a little money in the process.

I do not have 18 inch rims but I have 255/40/17 on 17X9.5 rim in rear with 1" drop using Eibach spring. Right after my first drive, I took the plastic thingy off the fender to get rid of the rubbing. I think even with the 17 inch rims, if I wanted to drop the car any lower than 1", I will be in trouble.

Fury,

In order to get a response you have to phrase your question in an opinionated form. Here's an example4:

"I hate those ghetto cars that have 18X10's in the back. The rims probably rub anyway don't they?"

I guarantee you you will get attacked by about 50 people that have 18X10's in the back. Somewhere in the attacks you will get your answer.....

Hi:
My 18 x 10" SSR GT3 rims and tires came in two weeks ago. I have not had time or strength to put them on yet to see what the fitment is. Was either away or it was too cold or I was layed up with (& still revcovering from) a bad cold to venture out into the garage (unheated) and try the rear pair on. The tires I will be running on the rear are 265-35-18s. My front rims are 18 x 8.5" and those tires will be 245-40-18. Both of these tires have quite narrow or thin sidewalls so the overall outside diameter is the same as the stock 16" wheel and tire unloaded (not mounted on the car just standing side by side). These new tires and rims go on in the spring as it would be suicide to drive with them in the snow and ice.

I have no plans of lowering the car as our roads here in Connecticut with hills and steep inclines would be less than smart, as it is, even being cautious and careful, I tend to scrape the lower front spoiler one or two times per month on some sort of incline. God I hate that.

Hopefully, by next weekend, if the weather is good I can roll one of them on out there and try one on. I got them from TireRack and they informed me they would fit fine but putting them on is the real deal and test. I think LexLuthor has either 10"s or 9.5" on his SC400's rear end. He sent me a picture once and they looked very nice. Also I think Adam may have 10's on his SC as well.

10's fit easily with the correct offset. 11's will even work without even trimming the fenders. It's all about the offset. Look for a +42-+45 offset for 10s

When shopping for wide wheels, tell them you have a 1995 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. It's the same thing.

sc300tt,

Thanks for this info. It helps big time. (Wow!! 11's in the rear. I'd love to see that.)

Red93sc400,

I was actually thinking about these rims. They look awesome. I can't wait to see how they look on your car after you put them on. BTW, would you know their offsets? I think TireRack doesn't include that info on their website or their receipts, but often times, wheel manufacturers stamp the offset on the inside of the wheel center after they assemble multi-piece wheels.

hoops_24,
You are sooooo right. I hear 'ya on this!!! People get all touchy, don't they? Especially if you start mentioning "Bling Bling".

Anyways, I'm glad all of you guys were able to help me on this. Asking in the Wheel Forum really didn't seem to help. I've noticed that other Lexus car communities other than the SC300/400 seem, well, a bit less responsive. I'm glad I'm a part of this one.

THANKS!!!

Ok, I will check them tonite and see if there are any offset markings on them. The SSR GT3's are a magnificent wheel from the fit and finish point of view. They are perfect in every way and it is apparent that the SSR company does not rush the manufacturing aspect. Everything is just 100% "on". The casting and buffing of the casting is super. Report back later.

Yeah, Speed Star's manufacturing is tight. A lot of the wheel companies don't make offsets below around 48, you'll find your choices are more limited when looking for something in the neighborhood of 42 to 45mm, whereas a 48 offset is very common for our 5x114.3 pattern. If I remember, sc300tt's OZ Saturns are a 42offset, correct me if i'm wrong Clint. OZ Racing is notorious for manufacturing these desirable offsets, and some companies that make the wider widths (i.e. 9"-12") do offer these offsets, but it's alot easier to find an offset closer to the factory 50. Of course, you could have HRE build a set for you, they'll make any offset you want, but there are solutions that will get you in much less trouble with the girlfriend/wife/gumar when the bill comes. Clint, gettin' tired of those Texas women? A couple of you guys have to come with me next time I go to PR, the women are 'las mejores.' Especially you, Art, if the plumbing still has some service life left to it, that is.

Hey Lex. the Plumbin's working at full flow and it ain't drippin'. The pipes always work better with "forced air induction"

Ok, the SSR GT3s from TireRack have an offset of 31 on the front, being 18" x 8.5" and on the rear the offset is 41 being 18" by 10"

If the weather ever breaks I will get out to the barn and put one of each on RED93 and snap a few digi's and post em up for ya'll. I hope they will look swell. They will show quite alot of disk rotor as they are an open five spoke design. It should have an aggressive look.

The downside of any of these wide wheels is the tire weight (sprung weight) and the cinder blow back and pelting that the body side moulding is apt to endure.
