I currently have the Kumho Ecsta Supra 225/55ZR16 's. Are these decent tires? I need to get two new tires, so i can either get two new ones of these, or I can get 4 new tires. If these suck, what are some real good tires?
I am extremely paranoid now of driving in the RAIN. I want amazing wet traction. the hydroplane accident has put the fear of god in me.
I have already been told these current tires suck in rain. Now i am shaking....

I suggest you go on over to the TireRack website. Choose the Kumho and a few other tires and click on the compair checkbox. They maintain a feedback review of all of their tires from owners. Look for a tire with good wet traction and low noise. An easier way is to just give them a call and get their opinion:
ie: what tires do you carry that are better in water than the Kumho? They know, its their business and since they can sell you just about ANY tire, they have no vested interest. I have found them very helpful in the past.

I went form the Kumho Ecsta to the Bridgestone Potenza S03. Man, they are WAAAAAY better in the rain. They grip like crazy glue and they are extremely quiet. They also have a very nioce side wall design. Look at my "dilemma" thread for a closeup pic
They will set you back a pretty penny though. About $215 per.

The Ecsta Supra is probably the BEST cheap tire you can get. I've never driven them hard or fast in the rain, but some kick *** all-weather tires are the Potenza S02/S03s. My first set were Potenza RE940s, which were cool too (I didn't have to pay for them, they came with the car, so I had nothing to complain about). Pretty much all of Bridgestone's performance tires are good so you can be safe using any of them.

From my experience Potenza re730 are very good in the rain. The tire design is pretty old so it's fairly cheap (118 each at tirerack for your size). Also they have very high tireware rating. But I do have to say that they are fairly noisey. Good luck with your choice.

Kuhmo Ecsta Supras suck *****. I wouldnt put them on a chevette. Best Bang for the buck tire, Sumitomo HTRZ-IIs, without a doubt. But for rain, you are going to be hard pressed to beat the Bridgestone S-02.

I am prepared to make a new purchase of new wheels 18x9s (fronts) and 18x10s (rears). However, to go with these wheels, I am considering 245/40R18s (fronts) and 265/35R18s (rears). I have narrowed down the tires to two brands.
The Bridgestone Potenza RE730 have a treadwear rating of 300, traction of AA, and temperature of A. Someone mentioned these tires were an old design. Is there a newer replacement?
The Nitto NT-555 have also have a treadwear rating of 300, but a traction rating of A, and temperature of A.
Has anyone had experience with either of these tires? And are they worth the money?
Other tires I've considered include Toyo Proxes T1 and Falken BR-Beta FK-451.
I'd appreciate any inputs.

If you get the Nitto's, buy yourself a set of earplugs and a find yourself a good dentist to repair your shattered molars. Those things ride loud and rough.
Spend the money on the Potenza S03. They are the best out there. Believe me!

I'm w/ Nico...the P6000's have done me well (except for the fact that I am young and love to do donuts, etc., so right now Im pretty much riding on slicks) but u prolly dont do burnouts, etc. so Id go w/ p6000's. If u want the best water tyre, isn't Goodyear Aquatread incredible in the rain?

And the answer is: Bridgestone! best tyres in the world, imo. I had pirelli p6000s and they were like driving on ice... slid everywhere, no grip at all. I had Bridgestone RE730's on my car that gripped better than the significantly wider Michelin Pilot Sports I have on there now.
